Episode one I was pulled over for doing 27 in a 25, cop was a little embarassed and you could tell I wasn't who he was looking for.

Episode two, three, and four were all New Year's Eve. First guy, Munhall, pulls me over and asks if he can see how dark my tint is. I don't have tint. Again, you could tell I wasn't who he was looking for because for one he called me sir automatically and for two he just pulled something out of his ass for a reason to pull me over. He asks where I'm going, will I be drinking, yadda yadda. Second guy, also Munhall, not more than a mile down the road pulls me over. Asks for license and registration, I asked what I did, he doesn't answer. Asks if I'm carrying a fake registration card, I said no, that was me, my name matched on my driver's license and on the registration, I said the other person was my grandfather who is the cosigner on the car. He starts arguing with me that he knows it's a false registration because he's pulled "my boyfriend" (didn't have one at the time) over in this very same car and it was registered to a different person. I said he must have been mistaken, this is my car and has always been my car, but that I had seen another car identical to mine down in Munhall, so I could understand the mistake. He swore it wasn't a mistake, took 45 minutes before he even radio'd to verify the registration, which came back clean. Episode 4 I was pulled over coming BACK through Munhall, cop flipped a U-ey in the middle of the street and pulled me over and proceeded to tell me I was at a DUI check point. Total bullshit but I said OK, I hadn't had ANYTHING to drink for 4 hours, I knew I was fine, took the brethalyzer and passed he let me go, another case where he thought I was someone else because he asked why I was driving my boyfriend's car.

Episode 5 was Muhall again, cop said I made an illegal right on red at one of those lights coming out from Giant Eagle. Same deal as the first 4, he calls me sir, asks why I'm driving the car, double checks the registration to make sure it matches the plate. And again, it was another case where the cop thought I was going to be this other guy with an Arrival Blue SS/SC so he made up a reason why he stopped me.

Episode 6 was the last straw with Munhall. I got pulled over, I don't even remember what excuse the guy gave, but he ended up pulling me out of the car and telling me he was going to search it and I threw a fit. Up till then I was patient and respectful, but then that set me off because a) I wasn't doing anything and b) he had no right to search my car, not taht he would have found anything anyway. I told him it was either call his supervisor or I would be calling my lawyer, he wasn't going to back down, I got irate with him over it and refused to give him permission to search my car, he called for backup, the other guy said he had to call a superior in for a search anyway. Well as soon as the superior got there he asked what was going on, the cop said he stopped me and was going to search my car, then admitted to the guy that he had no basis to search it. I told the guy I understood there must be someone with the same car causing problems because I'd had this happen 5 prior times and it was getting old, they needed to double check the plates and they'd know I wasn't the person they were after and I wouldn't have to keep going through this.

I don't know what happened after that, but I've had not one single problem there since. I wish I could remember the guy's name I talked to, really nice, said that I should have spoke up to one of the officers sooner about being pulled over mistakenly and they could have made a note in the computer that there were two Blue SS/SC's down there. The last guy admitted, and I suspect it to be the case for the other ones too, that they were pulling me over without running the plate first, which they're technically not supposed to do.

That was just Munhall. I had my first run in with Monroeville a few weeks ago. Guy claimed a spun the tires pulling out from a light, which I didn't. I waited 5 minutes for a light to change with no traffic the other way, so I hit the pedestrian button thinking the traffic sensor wasn't working, so he threatened me with a ticket for "tampering with a traffic control device". It's just a big mess. Hence why I don't want to get the same crap started with Monroeville that happened with Munhall. There's already 2 SS/SC's out there that run like jackasses and race up and down business 22 which I'm sure is going to attract more negative attention from cops.

Exactly. Since the Monroeville cop made specific mention about stopping several punks in Cobalts out there I know some of the other toolbags have been messing around. I know of 2 SS's that run around there and at least one, probably more riced-out base models too. I just don't feel like starting ALL over again with a different municipality, especially there, because the Munhall cops, while annoying, were hit or miss at worst. Monroeville cops, I've been told and certainly was true for the one that pulled me over, are pretty much universally *********.

Bad news guys. The car is banged up pretty bad. Tonight on my way back to my cousins, we hit a patch of something on the road around the bend and ended up in a yard, side swiped a tree and took it out. What makes me mad is that we weren't even speeding. I would be pissed of at myself if I was. This makes me more angry.

I am serisouly considering getting rid of this car once it is fixed. This thing is jinxed. I am just really pissed. My insurance company is gonna hate me. Considering what happened, the damage isn't too bad but we'll see. You guys probably won't even see me for a while, gonna enter my depressing state now.

Yea we are fine. It was a very very small tree. More like a bush. No where near as bad as your cavy. Mine is still driveable. Tires are fine, one rim is kinda scratched. I will go take a better look at it tomorrow.

If it's just mostly scratches or damage isolated to one area of the car, say the door or something, I would honestly try going the salvage route and not even turn it into insurance. Two at-fault accidents in the span of a couple months will NOT do good things to your insurance rate...

Have to agree with Alicia on that one.....

The important thing is you are ok. Cars can be fixed, replaced etc... for now... we can't grow new parts back.... FOR NOW...

With you being your age, and the accident, the ticket, and now this, depending on the insurance company, they could drop you, or make you're rates SO HIGH that you pay more a month for insurance than the car itself.. Not saying that they WILL, but I've heard it happen to people.

If it's drivable, and you can live with it, I say don't even fix it right now. Wait until you can pay cash to do it right. Just my opinion of course, so take the info in and do with it what you choose.

Dude, sorry to hear that. Glad you are alright though.

I'm going to have to agree with everyone else on this one. Don't turn it in to insurance. I'm sure you could find a few people to help fix it up....

Damn Wes, at least you're OK. I don't know too much about body work, but if we can find a door for ya, I'll be more than willing to come out and help.

I forgot about that ticket.

Wes, definitely don't go to insurance. You said it's drivable, work with that. It might cost you more out-of-pocket money right now, but if not I'd say you're definitely going into the "high liability" insurance bracket, which ain't good. You could either be dropped or your rates are going to be unimaginably high, just like Brian said. I'm sure you can get enough parts from salvage to put it back together.

Yep... and it'll take a long long long time for that all to come off your insurance record. It's not as bad as it used to be though.

You're lucky that you've not gotten a warning from your agent about the claim and ticket. My buddy got 2 tickets in 3 weeks, and his insurance company sent him a polite letter telling him that while he was a valued long time customer, further traffic violations, or claims could result in substantial premium increases or loss of coverage ( I think that is how they worded it )

THere has GOT to be some Cobalt's in the yards by now, so it's just a matter of putting the pieces together.

Get some pics, post them, and let's see what we can do.
As far as the wheels.... leave em go.. they're just going to get blisterd, peel, and flake anyway... later down the road, just get an aftermarket set.

+1 on that. I had 2 accidents in 3 months once. My insurance actually dropped me and I had to find someone else (I had Erie Insurance, and they're known for dropping people for multiple infractions)

There has got to be some front end damage cobalts out there now that we should be able to find. When I take my car in to get the bumber replaced, I'll see if my body man can make a couple calls around to see what we're looking at. Do you need R or L side?

The car is technically driveable. But the passenger side curtain airbag came down when the mini tree/bush hit the side. So legally I can not drive it cause of that sidecurtain bag.

ohhhhhh well now THAT is entirely different....

That is an EXPENSIVE FIX from what I hear. I don't know the cost of the SIDE airbags to be replaced, but I know that the front ones are anywhere in the $4k range from what i hear. That's why so many are stolen and they sell the airbag units.

NOw... I don't know what you can do other than get it fixed, and then start calling insurance companies just in case you get dropped. If not... the STATE WILL contact you and tell you that they will provide you with insurance at THIER RATE. Let me tell you, that it is NOT cheap and not what you want to happen.

I bought a new car, and the dealer said "don't worry about contacting your insurance company, we'll fax them the info right now, adn they'll have it for the AM"

2 weeks later my dad and my agent were talking and he said "what do you think of his new Camaro?"... the agent said "what new Camaro?"
That day I got the letter in the mail from DOT about that....

Needless to say since it wasn't my fault, the dealer took care of it, and worked it out with my insurance company so I didn't get screwed.

ANyway.... plan ahead.. just in case. There's always 1-800 SAFE AUTO.....

That's also *technically* fixable, Wes. Or removable, one or the other. BUT if you remove it and then sell it, you have to replace it and they have to be functional.

Have friend "borrow" the keys.
Friend gets mad, steals the car.
Make up with friend, chop a car that looks real similar to yours.
Buy a new car, thank friend.
