06 Cobalt SS vs 04 Saturn Redline....
06 Cobalt SS vs 04 Saturn Redline....
As some of you may know I drive a 06 Cobalt SS. My little brother drives an 04 saturn ION Redline. Anyway Recently we decided to race now that I am past my breakin period. The car's are as follows:
2006 Cobalt SS
1800 miles
LSD and recaro package
sunroof and SIAB's.
20% tint all arround
Magnaflow Cat back (Installed today and vid's are of it right after install)
2004 ION Redline
8500 miles
base no extra options
Uneek's HID's
K&N Cold Air Intake
Custom exaust with 3 inch muffler and piping I believe.
Anyway are car's are so close to the same speed its not even funny. He can beat me sometimes and I can beat him sometimes. I mainly have an advantage in 2-3 gear and he has a monster of a 4th gear, maybe because of his CAI?
anyway he dyno'ed his car heres the sheet:

Here are the vid's of me and him racing:

Enjoy!

I don't know....I can see the ion should be able to walk with a third and forth gear I mean he's holding that close with a passenger in ther car. Weight does play a big part when cars are so close in speed.
Thanks, I am in much need of an intake I cant wait until this spring! Then it will be on, for now hes got everything I have and an intake so he should beat me and his is more warn in, and I heard as our car's wear in they get a little quicker. The passanger weighed about a buck 30. Little guy hehe.

plus a 100+ pound system if that counts!
his car pulls in the mid range compared to me when i hit 4th it is all over (check one vid i come flying up) or from a 25MPH i can pull a car by the end of 2nd. but from a 35 he will pull then its a shifters game after that! form a 40 neck and neck
If he learns to perfect his launches he'll rape me form the line thoe (LSD) no not the drug
He pulled mad power from his intake. I remember racing him in my SE-R. I would run with him till 60 MPH and then he would pull hard. Once he got that intake (and learned to shift better) He would start pulling at about 30 mph. Pretty sick difference IMO. It was only the difference of about a week and the Intake, so I blame it on the intake. Hes had no CEL at all and is lucky. I just bought the AEM dry charger. Should be here next week. I am going to install that and see if I get a CEL. If I do then I know I cant get an intake without a CEL and will wait for the GM upgrades. If I install that and dont get a CEL then I might buy a CAI in the very near future instead. We will wait and see.
Anyone have a how to on how to install the AEM dry charger?

I see both cars running duplicate times at the strip so I don't see how one is any slower/faster than the other
its the SS badge my friend, 20 HP just from the badge!
Haha it is so funny watching those because I know where all those places are and I drive on those roads almost every day..
Nice vids, we should get together and make some.
Wanna race a CSS w/ a K&N?

The Redline's are slower! Look at all the magizines. They are heavier. Look at this site....
The redline are slower. they are pretty much a four (IMO) because od the 2 suicide doors.

Anyway have you seen how big the doors are on a cobalt SS? that 1 door easily makes up for the suicide door on a Redline. If there is any difference in weight its very slight and really isnt going to make much of a difference.
I think the cobalt is slightly faster, but if you had a Good driver in the Saturn and a OK driver in the Cobalt I think the Redline could take the win.

do you honestly think the redline weighs more
cobalt has two tank doors (redline 4 plastic doors
The reason why the redline is slower in magazines is just the reason why HONDA/ACURA gets 1st place every time they compete in a car shoot out "MONEY" Gm doesnt want people to buy the saturn due to the fact you'll pay about 9 grand more for a SS ask my brother
ive seen magazines were the redline runs 14.4 just like the SS magazines are magazines thoe remember that and watch your mouth
yea for my brother saturn was doing end end of season blow out on the 04 saturns so I think he got in one for about 16000 dollars with nothing down. Thats hella nice for a Supercharged car even if its without a LSD.
I paid about 25,000 for my car (atleast that what the sticker was) I ended up taking a loan out for about 17000, but yea the saturn may be the red headed step child of GM, but its quite a performer and the true cheap high performance low cost car saturn emblem and all. My brothers dyno sheet is on this post, I highly doubt any slightly modified or stock SS/SC would touch him. My car is special hehe, so It busts his ass but I am the exception hehe.
Keep in mind on his dyno sheet they cut the record off at 6000 RPM's. If it went up to 6500 IM sure you would see 230-240 easily....
