I'm going to comment simply on the photographs and not the cars individually because your car is yours, and the mods are your choices and stories/experiences. I won't comment on my own picture either. It's hard to be picky about these pictures because they are all worthy in their own way..but here we go:

sjc0013
- I might be bias to love profile shots, but they are great. Composition is spot on. A lot of prep work went into this shot.

EXsoccer1921
- Granted the engine work of this car is far beyond formidable, the picture doesn't have enough artistic integrity for me to want to stare at for a whole month..basically it's too car-focused (even though this is a car calendar).

MPCobalt
- The shot as a whole is great. The only thing I personally don't enjoy is the clash between the backdrop and the foreground subject. It blends in more than stands out.

07MetallicSC
- The picture is small, blurry, and underexposed by at least a stop or two. The colors are bland and uninteresting.

- I'm not a real fan of the composition of this shot, the car looks too cumbersome and in the way. However, I'm sure all of us have shopped from Tirerack at least once, so I give him props for the setting.

- Summit!!! ahaha yeah the picture is great, and shows the potential of the car. I'm just not the type to want to see this in a calendar.

- I prefer this track picture, artistically at least. I also like the safety truck on the right to add character to the photo.

- I thought he ran last year? I forgot my calendar back home in September so I can't check to confirm..but I'm obviously probably wrong. The picture is spot on, the editing is great, but I would have probably done this picture in the morning (or if this was in the am, I would have done it at sunset) to get the light directly onto the car.

lobalt91
- This is a cool picture. I rarely enjoy centerset pictures, and this is no exception; but the car is nice.

N1ckateen
- There's too many shadows on the car, and the editing is off. There's too much contrast and saturation and makes the picture look borderline blurry. Also, the picture won't fit properly in the calendar if it's cropped in that size.

- Resolution isn't up to par, and again a boring centerset picture. I prefer pictures from level or lower, and not from the top but that's just a personal choice.

- I don't like 45* pictures, I find they're like the instagram of photography. However, if this shot was level, it would be a great picture.

- Rolling shots are no piece of cake. Well done; it feels like a video game and you can see the determination in the driving. Great shot...I just wish there's a widescreen version.

- Wheels should only be turned when the car is turned. I don't like the lack of car in this picture, and I feel like grass parking is a way to make your car look lower than it is.

- Picture is just a little boring. It would probably be fine if the setting was different, but it just doesn't do it for me. That and again the picture looks way too small for a calendar.

- This guy has so many good, high quality pictures of his ride (unless I'm mistaking him for someone else) and this one is just bland. The setting is fine, the picture is ok..but if he used a wider lens, or just backed up, changed the point of perspective..it could have changed it from ''ok'' to ''great''

- If this picture was taken maybe a half hour earlier it would have been great. I feel it's just too dark. At the very least it should have been edited to lighten it up. I still love the feel to shot and it's great nonetheless.

- Again with a 45* square crop shot, but it has the potential. The car is awesome and the scenery is cool...just not up to par artistically for me.

- I hate centerset pictures. This is a prime example of why. There's only some specific exceptions to why a picture should have it's subject centered, and this isn't one of them.

- KEEP YOUR WHEELS STRAIGHT! Sorry but it would have made the picture 100x better if they were straight and if the picture wasn't so cropped vertically.

- I'm pretty sure this is the car with all the pictures of the thong-lady on them right? If it is, then it feels like he couldn't use any of his material and ''settled'' for what looks like a speedtrap picture of his car. Either that or our photographer is 9 feet tall

- Colors are nice, picture is great. Setting is neutral; a great ''the cold is coming'' shot, I would put it around November. I hope again there's a wider version of this picture.

Superb car. Power. Clean and very oem oriented exterior. Made the mistake of hating on this guy but I've learned from my mistake. While the pic is in your face and maybe a step back could've been taken, it's highlighting the power plant that defines this machine. Everyone loves the pix where Marc *sp* is burning rubber but its nice to know this beast does in deed rest.

Two rolling shots and both are beautiful. Here's a great fall pic if I ever saw one. Nicely modded yellow cobalt. Hope if it makes the cut, someone can edit that sign beside it out of the picture. Makes me want a rolling shot so bad.

While I'm not a fan of the SS/SC wheels and I do love blue, this beast is sexy. Almost all pix I ever see of this car are great. Location? The only 4x4 running reppin the good ol days before coilovers were built for our platform. A guy who believes the SS cobalt should've had the SS hood from the factory. A guy who says spoilers are for RWD and AWD, not FWD. He knows he needs coilovers and his wheels painted to complete the look. Wish he had better lighting and a better camera because that background is spot on.

Panda is sexy with those wheels and his recently purchased coilovers. Black and blue are nice on the TC. Epic location and it delivers on every photo. Just makes cars look good. Always great to take pix in the middle of the road lol

The pic that inspired me to paint my front bowtie red. Not sure if the paint is oem or what. But it's sexy as hell. Amazing picture and clean cobalt. Wish they ( not the photographer necessarily ) had cut the grass but it adds character to the pic.

Secondary lips are not nessesary IMO. Not a fan of the blacked out wheels. Or hubcap look as I see it. Like seeing a donk lose its wheels to steelies and the ride height remains. Nice car and location.

I've never liked the SS badge to replace the front bowtie and there's that secondary front lip. Great pix from this guy and a very clean red balt is nice any day. Is there an oem rc antenna back there?

Beautiful yellow cobalts. Graffiti wasn't done but it makes the picture pop. While the wheels are black we can clearly make them out in this picture. It's too rectangular for a calendar but I'm sure they could make it work somehow.

Only Sunburst Orange metallic cobalt running. Nicely done headlight housings. Needs wheels but hey, who doesn't? Such a great picture with the clouds in the back and the prison style look. Winner!

I wish it was edited out as well. The people who are demolishing the buildings on the hospital property labeled each one by name in white paint on parts of the building so when it comes time for demo its clearly labeled.

I don't do reviews anymore. I don't like saying negative things about peoples cars that they love and put lots of work into. Besides, there are a couple of guys who have taken the review reins. Hopefully they'll continue to critique FCOTM. I look forward to reading future reviews.

I really don't have anything negative to say about the final 25. Some may be a little better than others. There are a few epic pics in there, but they're all calender worthy.

Here are a couple of observations:

1. I don't think the cover will be as good as last year. Last year's cover was perfect. I like the panoramic shot in the discussion thread. I think it was RKR's??? Maybe if there were a way to crop it into four or five sections and then put them on the cover horizonally and make them look like they are on a film strip or something. That might be nice. Only problem is RKR was in the calender last year....but since it's not a pic of his car and it wouldn't be a photo "IN" the calender, maybe it could be allowed.

2. Only one rolling shot should probably make it in. Glad I don't have to decide which one because both are great. Same goes for the graffiti shots.

3. Someone earlier in this thread said that the photos they wanted to vote for didn't make the first cut. That's surprising. Yeah, there were a lot of nice pics submitted but surely everyone can find ONE that they can vote for. It's really close so EVERY vote is gonna count.

4. It would be great if there was a huge variety of car colors. That way those who aren't in the calender at least have a car that they can sort of "relate" to.

5. I kind of don't like 45* shots either if it looks like the car is going to roll out of the picture. I think they look good if more of the top of the car is seen and it looks like the car is kind of coming out of the picture or driving deeper into the picture... but yeah, 45* and only the side of the car kind of bugs me.

For those of you who are worried about the size or aspect ratio of the picture, I'm going to be getting the full size photos from each member who wins, the ones in the thread are obviously too small. I'm I'm trying to get IB or whoever will be setting these up on the site that they need to be uploaded to to crop them to make them fit better.

this is true.

 

From a photography point a view there are only a handfull of pictures out of these 25 that are good. generally you want a level horizon, separation of object and background, and dont want stuff growing out of the car. Also want a good light on the whole car or at least the area of focus. That is what makes pictures more visibly appealing to look at. I certainly am no expert though and this is a cobalt calendar not a photography calendar. Next year I think there should be a vote for the top 25 and then another vote for the top 12 but I dont run this place. Good luck to everyone.

 

Im no photowhore :P just like taking pictures of my car, this was literally the day after it arrived in germany. the blue is supposed to be white(switchback LEDs) and green is the LEDs in the shrouds.

Honestly, I feel like there is alot wrong with this picture...but then again its my own work.

Mark. and damn, i'm surprised someone actually realized what i was going for. i figured everyone would be just like hey cool picture. i don't have an evo mod, or wheels, or a body kit. its not slammed or stanced by any means. i don't have a cool sound system or crazy suspension. the engine IS the car. i feel i've made the outside as clean as possible with the things i did do like work on the lights, stock chrome retrofits, tc grill, etc. but the engine was my focus, and so thats what i was trying to show off.

 

Me neither which is why I looked over the fact.
