Black Car + 1100 mile road trip = BLUE TAPE!!!
Black Car + 1100 mile road trip = BLUE TAPE!!!
We all know how GM's black paint doesn't like rocks, not to mention bugs, so I decided to take some preliminary precautions for my trip from FL to NJ. 3 rolls of 2 inch blue painters tape equals....

Please excuse the camera phone pictures, definately not up to par for my standards...

Unless it gets rained on, then good luck getting it back off. I install vinyl graphics for a living and one of my customers, Morgan Truck Body, will sometimes leave tape behind after their done painting a truck. If it gets wet and then dries again, it's a PITA to get off.
I actually just bought a house in Metuchen so I'll be around for years to come. Although a gtg sounds good to me! I'm always down to meet some locals!
As for the residue....I'd rather clean that then love bugs and rock chips!
I actually haven't left yet but I won't have time later this week to do this so I just had to get it done on the weekend.

Hopefully it works out for you man. I was in a similar situation earlier this summer. I drove from Austin, TX up to Detroit, MI--about 1400 miles--and back. I was debating whether or not to buy one of those clear 3M masks, but I just said **** it. After all was said and done, I was really surprised at how little crap actually got on the paint. Yeah, there were a ton of bugs, but no chips to speak of. I guess I was lucky. Ditto on the guy who said don't let the tape get wet. That will be a bitch to get off if it rains, not to mention of the tape catches a gust of wind & starts to peel mid-trip.
