Exhaust sound clips ...is it going thru a Turbo that makes this exhaust sound so good

The sounds clips are of a 2005 Opel Astra with our 2.0 engine that is Turbocharged . It sounds frikin AWESOME and pretty different than any catback Ive heard for a ecotec engine . Is it possible to make a non-turbo car sound like that , or is going thru the Turbo contributing to the almost exotic like exhaust note .

that does sounds good! I really dont know what needs to be dnoe to get a great sound, but if it's discovered let me know. Im holding off on doing anything to the exhaust this summer cause I want something that sounds great. Waiting to see what others do and what comes out to get the best sounding exhaust that rips.

Yea , exactly . I'm just not too happy with any of the avail cat backs , so Im actively searching for something diff. from the norm . That sound frikin sweet though though . I emailed them , and asked if theyd show a little love to the Astra american platform mate . Proabably pointless , haha ....but they do market catbacks for Audi/VW in the USA , so who knows . Like Corsa , they will not sell their mufflers or resonators separate from the complete catback .

A friend of mine has a Turbocharged Galant that sounds VERY similar to that with a Borla TurboXL muffler , so I ordered that to try out . I doubt it will sound as good on my SS though

....dont use a chambered muffler , I just put Edelbrocks new SDT muffler on mine . Low RPM cruise sounds really good , but its ricer city at WOT ...god its aweful

Same here. If that company made an exhaust for our cars that sounded like that I would definatly buy it. Nice and throaty and not tinny or raspy.

ExHondaMan has a new exhaust on his car, I can't remember what it is, but it sounded pretty good. I think Vendian might have gotten a sound clip of it, but I'm not sure. If he did it might take him a while to get it up.

Geez that sounds so much nicer than anything out for our cars as of yet. I thought the Corsa touring exhaust sounded decent...but that Opel takes the cake. It also disproves my own theory that my car sounds like a weedeater because of it's displacement haha.

The turbo is what makes it sound so good. Adds a nice deep tone and quiets it down a bit.

I didn't really hear the turbo in that exhaust.

I think a decent header + 3" exhaust w/ a quality muffler will give you a sound similar to that with the 2.0 SS/SC.

This header was custom made for me by S&S Headers in Glendale, Az, then Jet-Hot coated. For those in the Phoenix area, I'd highly recommend talking to Loren (I think that's his name...) at S&S about making a set of headers. For a bit extra he can use the first car to make a jig so that he could reproduce the header for those out of state.

Loren has forgotten more about header design than the guys that make the "el cheapo" headers know. You tell him what the application is, RPMs, HP, etc... and he'll make a header optimized to support that. The header pictured above helped my Naturally Aspirated 2.0L Neon make almost 155ft/lbs and 202whp (running out of fuel injector above 7200rpm).

Still no reply from them . Im still trying to find GOOD under shots of the Astra to see if the exhaust routing is the same . The Tailpipe is obviously centered , but if it followed the same path back over the axle , that problem could be easily rectified . While it is on the identical platform as Cobalt/Ion/Pursuit , sometimes theres small diff's that screw swapping all up

It won't sound the same w/out a turbo.

Well considering it's on a car that idles at ~1500 rpm (BIG cams) with no muffler (open header) it kinda sounded like a BIG Sport Bike.

I'm sure it'd have a completely different sound through a 3" exhaust w/ a decent flowing muffler.

I just purchased the Thermal Ion Redline Catback. I'll need to mess with the hangers, and maybe shorten how far it sticks out.

I bought it becuase I LOVE Thermal R&D! They always have a nice deep, smooth, unique sound. Hopefully its what I'm looking for, not too loud but nice gains. I'll let you know how it goes.
