Forest fires ravage my area...
Check this map:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...=UTF8&t=h&z=15
Yes, all the gray is smoke. That satellite image isn't updated. Was taken about 6:00PM EST yesterday, and the fire still isn't contained. Still spreading. Started yesterday around noon.
Fire is approx. 10-12 KM's long, and 2KM's wide... 7.5 miles by 1.3 miles... that's only the main fire. There a are a bunch of branched off little ones. They had to evacuate everyone from multiple towns.
There was smoke everywhere around my house, you couldn't see. Saw a few houses on fire, cars, too... I'm just hoping everyone who hasn't already lost their houses doesn't do so.
Had to close off highways, set up refuge shelters around town.
Water bombers, and helicopters are being utilized, and we've already had to call out of province to get more because we can't contain it. Still spreading. Going to be a lot of damage when it's all said and done.
The fire and smoke could be seen as far as 100 KM's away (76 miles)
Already 20 houses confirmed destroyed, and there are multiple neighborhoods engulfed that they can't account for yet. Took 4 hours to travel 5 miles as everyone tried to evacuate... they can't contain it because there are 90 KM/H winds (56 miles) blowing it everywhere.
My house already burned down once several years ago, and if it does again, I swear to god
Well, wish me luck, we're being moved again!

Wow, we had the biggest fire in Michigan in 20 years late last summer/fall. It ended up burning about 21,000 acres and we could see the smoke about 50 miles away where my cabin is. It was next to impossible for them to even get to it since it started in the middle of a swamp with no trails within 2 miles. I hope everything turns out the best for you and that your house is still there when you get back!

Thanks everyone for the words. Keepin' my fingers crossed.
They're evacuating more people now, as it continues to spread. The firetrucks obviously can't reach the heavily wooded areas and we don't have enough water bombers / helicopters to battle it, since it's so big. We're still waiting on some from out of province.
Gettin' pretty serious.

If you go to google earth and download that, you can see that it's smoke more clearly. Just what I've been told.
EDT: and scroll over and look at some of the other ones, right in the middle of the land. It's smoke, heh. :\
