That panel itself is close to 700. The work and paint, etc. Comes out to close to $2K.

ok, got back. they fixed everything except the bumper fit and finish. they convinced me that the design of the bumper will not allow it to fit 100% correct. and the paint matching problem they claimed was also impossible to fix 100%. w/e they claimed they guarantee the work for several years, so i hope it holds up.

as far as the left body panel, they said they made a cut above the rear window to weld and piece the new part in. that part actually looks fine.

i was going to rip them a new a, but my mom held me back. all i know is i'm not going back there again.

oh btw the name of the place is weber chevrolet on olive in stl.

BULL ******* ****. They have to take off the door and fenders along with a lot of **** to pull the side. They are just LAZY.

That weld will NOT hold up to OEM standards I guarantee that.

ohhh it gets better. the other night i discovered another problem: the TRUNK LEAKS! found the hole and put a piece of tape on it for now untill the garage opens again. its on the crease of metal just under the left trunk lid support. looks like they hit it with a power tool and shaved off the corner. hope mold doesnt start growing in trunk....

I had the same problem with my old car. They cut the 1/4 panel and spliced a new secion back in and the trunk always leaked from that day on. It leaked by the rear window where they welded it. They could never get it to seal properly again...

^ That is why you fix things the right way the FIRST time.

Bondo is a dying fix nowadays with technology so advanced. Even that way is just not beneficial anymore.

you realize that a weld is stronger than the metal it is fusing together right?

Do you REALIZE that the weld has to be done PERFECTLY. Conditions in the weather, metal, etc.

Raise hell.
There is no reason to use a new torsion beam. He probably would have been without the car for months waiting for one anyway. One from a 'Balt that was in a front end collision would be just as safe as a new one.

I recommend taking the car somewhere to get the alignment checked as well.

I went for hobby welding just did MIG. But everything has to be perfect. I had some where the welds snapped like nothing then some the bender couldn't even break.

Too much factors go into play so I'll just stick to the replacing it with new part.

damn, thats pretty bad too. we know for sure what car it was. it was a white 5.0 the owner lives down the street from my friend. the owner claims it was stolen that night, conveniently during one of his irresponsible drunken parties they have every other night.

yeah, i'm taking back to the dealer asap. i have been working like mad the last 6 days, so i dont have much business hours time on my hands. and i will bring up the mis matched paint again. its really obvious when its wet. when i told them the first time they pointed to this little cardboard info kiosk that explained how its impossible to match the paint on the bumper b/c its made out of plastic and not metal. and the guy proceeeded to tell me that even from the factory it didnt match, because "the parts are manufactured and painted in separate parts of the plant".

just seems like they are taking me for a sucker. i mean i have countless photos of my car from pre accident, all of which show perfect paint matching from the factory.

if they dont get it right this time, i will have to talk to someone....

ok took it in today. they gave me a rental car. (pt cruiser) they are definitly going to fix the leaky trunk and see what they can do about fitment issues on the door to panel connection. they are going to call the insurance company to see if they will pay for blending on the other side where the bumper doesnt match the rest of the car.

and on top of it the insurance company called the house this morning and left a message saying the owner of the car is claiming his car was stolen so the case is going to take a while. even though i knew this since day two. so i guess this means i wont get my 500 deductible back...

this has been one of the biggest pains in my ass... even all the other repairs i've done on my old car doesnt stack up to this....
