That is a great link for the mechanics of actually capturing the image...the only thing I would add is to pose the car...what does he mean? Well the front wheels if turned should be turn in such a way that the wheel points directly at the camera, in other words do not take a picture of the tire tread.

One way to avoid making this mistake is to leave the wheels straight however that makes for boring 3/4 shots. Look at car ads and see if you find any "Tread Shots"...I'll bet you won't.
