Exclamation If you ain't breakin, you ain't racin. (in-car videos)

Decided to take the car out last night and make some passes now that i'm getting used to launching it.

I had ordered new plugs on thursday and was going to pick them up friday. Idk what happened but i was sicker than **** friday and never got a chance to go out. Then i missed them by 30 minutes saturday and they were closed. So i just pulled out these ones as they have the least amount of miles and passes on them and cleaned them up real good.

Before:

After:

Tires:

...She lasted a couple passes. On the 3rd it blew the passenger inboard CV somewhere on the launch. Still made a pass though but hit a burp from the plugs about 7k in 3rd, 13.03@116 8.7 1/8@90 with a 2.24 60' from the axle.

Factory transmission and these axles have been in the car since day one of the build in June of 11'. they've gone through the same dyno pulls, highway pulls, track passes and burnouts.

First pass was about 22-23psi.

2.179 60'
5.760 330'
8.507@90.06 1/8
10.867 1000'
12.801@115 1/4

If you've read my thread about my fun runs with the Boss. Listen closely to this video in 3rd and you can hear what i've been trying to describe about the plugs. Regular 1-2 shift regular 2-3 shift.

Cobalt making a pass - YouTube

So i turned the boost down to 20psi and went out again. Picked up a tenth and a mph.

2.056 60'
5.677 330'
8.424@90.59 1/8
10.789 1000'
12.719@116 1/4

Much cleaner pass as far as spark goes but being on only 20psi the ET and mph just isn't going to be there. Still a pretty stellar 1/8 for the condition the tires are in. Regular 1-2 shift NLS 2-3

I swear she was hot.. - YouTube

Then came the broken axle. No wheel hop, and not my best but felt like a decent launch. I didn't even know anything had broke until i crossed the line and put it in neutral and thats when i heard the noise. Got out once i was on the return road and checked the drivers side and then the passenger side. Regular 1-2 shift NLS 2-3

2.244 60'
5.969 330'
8.731@90 1/8
11.099 1000'
13.036@116 1/4 with a busted car

And for those wondering how i do my burnouts. I pull through the water box and stop with my tires right on the edge of where the water stops and the track starts. That way when i start to spin i'm in the water but it instantly kicks me forward on to the track so they'll heat up. 2nd gear, rip the ebrake and dump the clutch. Also theres no need for a John force burnout. Once you get them nice and hot, any more and you're just wasting rubber. Just read up on the tires you're running and see how long you should do your burnouts for. Drag radials and slicks are different for burnouts.

maybe this will be my incentive to buy slicks while i'm replacing this stuff. drivers side doesn't sound all that great either but it's still intact. 8.4@90 1/8 making baby power on 20psi and only a 2.05 60'. slicks and 30 is gonna be hella fun

My ZZP stage 2 broke on the way down the highway 2 weeks ago. I started to hear a slight whine at 55 mph . Almost like a boost leak or turbo whine. It got louder as I got closer to home. Still shifted fine . Pulled ihto the driveway and parked it. Next morning theres a good sized puddle of fluid under the trans. Leaking from the bellhousing. So my bud came over and we pulled it out. The differential let loose and blew a hole in the case. It was then I discovered the trans had an open differential installed instead of the LSD that was in my trans I sent up to have the stage 2 4.45 treatment done to it. I sent the blown trans back to ZZP last week and am waiting for them to warranty it out since it wasnt the right trans to start with. Oh well Im getting used to waiting.

Mine didnt even make a bang that I heard but it looked like the spider gear came apart which is why the LSD is way better than the open diff

Hey mark, how were you able to still put power to the ground with a broken axle?

When my axle snapped the car wouldn't move on it's own power

turns out it was just the boot and the retainer swung out and snagged the brake line

When I had my 05 ss I broke tons of axels.. Never snapped them. The little rollers in the barrings would come out! It all ways would happen from 1st to 2nd! So I bought axles with lifetime warranty.. I would just take out the broken one and exchange it.. Man I miss my ss!

I don't wanna be a hater here....but I really can't help myself.

8.4 is a stellar 1/8 mile time?

My POS runs 8.5 in the 1/8 with 193hp, and your trapping an extra 9mph on me.

You have some work still to do before you turn the power up IMO.

With a 116mph trap you should be running in the high 11's and not the high 12's. And simply getting more traction won't get you there, judging by those videos.

Sorry to be such a dick, but considering your "I'm a drag racing expert" attitude I expected better than this, or at the very least a little less sugar coating.

you must have missed the rest of that sentence. let me say repeat it "pretty stellar 1/8 for the condition the tires are in."

traction does more than just improve 60' times. theres a lot i'm missing out on by not being able to hook up.

and "judging by those videos" ?? well why don't you tell me whats wrong then mr expert drag racer?? since i've never said i was an expert at it.... and what sugar coating? theres no sugar coating

and did you miss the whole topic about the plugs? i guess so. either that or you must think plugs won't effect anything when not igniting properly.

I hear ya. I need slicks in a bad way too. Sounds like your tires are just barely better than street tires. I guess I'll get slicks after I get the car back together since I have wheels now.
