K&N CAI Install (56k run in FEER!!1)
K&N CAI Install (56k run in FEER!!1)
So I got home from work last night and lo and behold on my bed sat a very pretty box from JEGS.
So I went and installed the typhoon today, and lordy lordy, what a difference! It makes my otherwise stock car sound ******* sweet, the whine is incredible. And there was a rather noticeable increase in acceleration, too. Definitely worth it. It's about 25 miles from the shop to my apartment, and no CEL on the way home, so I'm pretty sure I'm good to go. On to the pics!
It's like Christmas!!

Jackin' the car up...

After I got all the stupid plastic out of the way (totally the hardest part, btw)

After cutting and fitting the liner to the edge, I decided to reinforce it with some strategic electrical tape. It ain't goin' nowhere, and it's completely invisible from the top. Not pictured, but I did the same with the strip that goes along the rad. core support.

I almost got a little frustrated when I first tried to get the piping in place, but I took a step back, drank some redbull, and took a deep breath. Then I came back, took a second look at it, realized I was going about it the wrong way, and boom, in it went. Put the bolt in, but didn't tighten all the way, I went back and tightened everything after I got the fit the way I wanted it.

Got the MAF back in action, ready to rock.

K&N Preoiled filter, with the drycharger wrapping. I have complete faith in this company, have used them for years.

Lining up the doohickeys...

...for a nice airtight fit.

Inevitable, the heatsink was just too close to the pipe for comfort, so I found this perfect little strip of rubber, and in she went. Thats in there pretty snugly, not too worried about it going anywhere fast.

About done...

And there she is

Lookin' forward to the next mod!

do you guys think its more effective (i.e louder) than the airbox mod? ....im trying to get a lil of the whine back since it was drowned out by my loud muffler

I love it as well. depending on what muffler you have, it aint gonna matter. I had SLP and went to GM for that reason and others haha. But if the muff is really loud you may only hear it from outside the car which doesnt really do YOU a whole lot of good.
hey guys, two questions for you. 1) What is that sock around the filter for? does it restrict airflow? 2) If you are running CEL how do you get the check engine light off. i here people get them and some dont. Is it because of the dry filter/oiled filter?
On mine, it's a drycharger, protects against water suck uppage, and no it doesn't restrict airflow, at least not in any worthwhile amount. If you get a CEL, click the little search button, it's been addressed many many times. For the record, I didn't get a CEL, nor do I think I will.
