You can ring the RAF and inform them of the error of their ways.

if hes in the military he already knows hes an idiot. oh and btw police radar scatters far too much for an aircraft to catch wind of it that far out to sea. and he wouldnt fly inland to investigate either. if you know anything about military radar and police radar its a no brainer. and this myth is nearly 20 years old.

somehow i doubt this. Ok the cop locking onto the jet...possible. Jet doing low-level flying..possible. Jet having live missles while doing manouvers over civilians...unlikely. I can see it being flares that shot off. Cause every now and then we see C-130's or choppers here shooting flares off cuz they just got lased. And on top of that, im pretty sure they jets systems are much more advanced to tell the difference between a sam site and a cops laser gun.

right but assuming the first half is true i doubt the point of the reply is to scare or convince the police officer they could have been blown up. its more of a stern **** off with enough errors to not get the writer in trouble

the missiles are probably an evolved version like our evolved sea sparrows.. they can do both. as for radar locking onto a plane? possible.. as for doing maneuvers with live weapons.. doubtful but stranger things have happened. would it have fired? probably not over it's own air space and knowing there are no threats in the area... in typical military and media fashion the story was embeleshed to add interest. i've seen this done before in real military articles written about events i witnessed myself... still funny

Well apparently somebody forgot to tell Raytheon.. the people that make them.. lol
Raytheon Company: AIM-9X

Maybe you're thinking ground-to-air, such as shoulder fired, vehicle fired, or even helicopter fired. This would make it a good eventual replacement for the Stinger.

Here's more info if anybody's interested in the details:

likewise. When i was on TF-107 work up, we did a excerise in the public. I was on the C6 at a VCP, some news reporter started asking me questions and ****. The next day it was blown way out of proportion. The dude made me sound like a god. All i said was "the guys search the car and I stand back and cover them with the gpmg incase anything happends"

doesnt change the fact this never happened. was dreamed up as a cautionary tale against technology taking over our lives in the 90's. or did noone read the snopes article. would be too much to ask if anyone knew about IFF and that its how they identify threats and would never mistake police radar for a threat.
