Posting with License plate numbers! (dont do it!)

People, please. Do not post pictures of your car with your license plates in plain view. Plates are public record. You know what people can do with $10 and a license plate #?

Get your:
Name
Address
Phone number
Social Security number
Your work address
your credit card numbers (from your SSN)
bank account (again from SSN)

So please guys/girls, pixel out your license plate numbers! If you dont know how, ask someone here. I can do it, but I have dial up (ugh), and would only do 1 or 2 pics at a time. People can read these forums without even registering (I did).

Thanks,
Shamrock

Not that I think you should show your license plate numbers... but you can't get all that info from the DMV... I just recently did a general inquiry on one of my previous cars, and this is what i could get

Name
Address
County
VIN
Make
Model
Year
Body
Color
Title #
Purchase Date
Lien holder if any

I would think the biggest threat of haveing your tag number other than tracking down your car to steal it, would be using a forging to steal gas.

I really don'tt think it is too big of a deal... unless someone is trying to find your car to steal it.

You see cars driving around with license plates everyday.... Do you write down the number and steal people’s info/identity? I don't think so.

The DMV will NEVER give out someone else's SSN. That is a violation of Federal Laws.

The DMV does not have access to you account # or C.C. # through your SSN.
and although your SSN has your C.C # and expiration, it does not have the security number on the back, which is now a requirement to make purchases only or on the phone.
the person would have to have that number.
having your account number does not give a person access to you account. if you go to a bank you'll need your bank card or I.D. and to access it over the phone or internet they need your pass code.

but if someone really wanted to get to your stuff that badly they'd just hack there way, or get someone else to do it for them. either way this is no easy task.

I don't see it being being easy in any way to get these things, if you know of a way please enlighten me.

then next time I see a lamborghini, or other exotic car I can write down there license plate #

1. DMV will NOT give out social security numbers
2. Everyone sees everyone’s plates on the road every day. Not really a big deal

You only get LoJack if you buy it. It isn't standard equipment. It also isn't an alarm.

GM might be watching the forums waiting for something to void your warranty.

Honestly, if GM is wasting money it doesn't have by paying someone to write down our plate numbers and start files on all of us, they deserve to be in debt. That is the most anti-customer service thing they could do. I hope they aren't doing it, but if they are, I've lost faith in GM.
