Quad Projectors - Full Custom Retrofit

Ok, so some of you may recall my old thread where I was squeezing 2 projectors into each headlight with the stock housing. I didn't like how it was looking aesthetically and for a bit I was thinking about backing down from actually doing 4 projectors. I've thought some more and realized that I don't want to do that and I want something even more one-off that 2 projectors in the stock housings.

So.. I am going to mount the bi-xenon, the single xenon, a side marker from a G35x, and a custom made smoked turn signal and then build a new bezel around all of that with fiberglass. I have a few pictures mocked up of what the placement of everything will approximately be. Let me know on your thoughts, I really like criticism and ideas.

Hope to have everything mounted this weekend and start fiberglassing the bezel.

ps get ride of the headlight shroud.

this is where i was going...i finished wrapping the back but there's so many hours involved in finishing them right etc. lease is up in july and i'd rather do this type of retrofit etc. on my next car.

Yeah, I've gotten pretty good with fiberglass lately... doing it quite a bit. Which shroud were you referring to? The G35 side marker?

Oh yeah, that is going tomorrow when I start into things. It's just there for picture purposes and so I could visualize the overall look. It will take some time but I'm very confident I can get it done well and I'm planning on getting them done before snow falls early Nov.

umm... yes, could we have kept this in a private message instead of coming into this thread totally off topic. And I may have had payment since then but I've only had the parts for 3-4 weeks or so... and I said there were customers in front of you and you'd have to wait and you were cool with that.

I've just finished the other customers yesterday and was planning on starting on yours first thing tomorrow. I haven't done any work on my own other than the 5 minutes to mock this up and see what other people thought... so it's not like yours is on the back burner... it's the priority and now that it's underway it should only take me 4-5 days or so.

sure you could squeeze 3 in if you tried really hard!

Yeah screw the bezel dude, gonna fab might as well fab something from scratch. I'm going to follow what SilverSS/SC did and keep the stock bezel but trim off all the middle section just to keep the frame to work off of... will be much easier.

The bi-xenon will be mounted to a piece of plexiglass, mounted to the stock mounts... and for the single xenon, that will be mounted to the housing with full 3-axis adjustability... it's a technique I saw on HIDPlanet that looks really cool. So all in all, shouldn't be too bad of a project.

You been reading up on Johns post? With the spring loaded screws that are bolted to the L shaped brackets? Turn the screws to rotate the L shaped brackets to adjust the projector?...

Yup, that's the one I was thinking of. I made my angel eye rings last night. Radio shack didn't have any bright white LEDs, so i bought a few Infarad bulbs, they look kinda bluish white... kinda sweet in my opnion.

I want to make mine different, I just don't have the patience anymore. I put the stockers back in and highway driving at night has become insanely eye strainning

Sweet... and yes driving at night with stockers after projectors is such a pain in the ass!! Especially as my gf is just outside of the city and I'm constantly driving out there at night. But good luck with yours if you decide to give it a go. This build is going to be slow for the next little bit... but still hope to get it done this year

Hey sorry dude. Didn't mean to come off rude. I just re-read it and it did sound pretty assholeish.

On topic: lights look good

No worries dude, I'd be just as upset... it's a lot of money we are dealing with and I know waiting sucks... just should have kept it to PM, but again no worries. I just finished taking them apart and removing the old sealant from the lenses and housings. Tomorrow I will mount the projectors, aim them, paint everything black, and mount the purple halos. Then all that will be left is the wiring harness and if you still wanted to do some LEDs... PM me details of what you had in mind and hopefully I can get these out to you mid to end of this week. Thanks,

Corey

Couple pics I forgot to show...

Bi-xenons are mounted on custom frame, single xenons are mounted to the housing with L brackets and are adjustable in 3-axis, DRL/turn signal is going to go in the top corner tilted slightly up and outwards, G35x side marker will go up top in between both projectors and act as a park light/side marker.

So this will be the overall layout I think. I really liked SilverSS/SC's custom retro layout, so I pretty much did that but added the G35x side marker up top. I gutted the OEM bezel to just the frame that will screw to the housing. The shrouds and turn signal and side marker will be fiberglassed and bondo'd to that. Expect an update on that in 2 weeks time or so. Lots of work... but definitely going to be worth it.

Comments/criticisms are welcomed.

sort of off topic but how do you guys know which bolts/screws/nuts to use to attach the projector to the reflector?

i was searching all through HID Planet but didn't see anything...I know you guys aren't walking into Home Depot/Lowes and just taking a guess. lol

lol @ steddy

Ion - the FX35 projectors are actually threaded, so those had to be precise... can't remember but they were definitely metric and rather small. I have a thread gauge and pitch meter, that's how I knew. But for the other projector, I just used the largest threaded rod and bolts that would fit in the holes on the projector... turned out to be 10-24. (#10 x 24 thread pitch).
