The reason I hate deer...

It was only a week ago that I posted pictures of my car here and it looked amazing. Well as of 2:00 pm here in New York my SS now looks like this thanks to a deer...

Before

At the scene

When I got the car back to my place

Nice chunk of meat

Where its nose hit my door

Thankfully I am okay. But it looks like I will need a new hood, headlight, bumper cover and the radiator support looks a little tweeked. I'm sure the list will get longer once my insurance company takes a look at it. It is still driveable. No leaks and it still tracks straight down the road so I'm not to worried. The only thing that I will do is wrap something around the hood latch at work tomorrow so the hood does not open.

And for those that want to know, I will look into getting a carbon fiber hood and SS/TC grill inserts for the top grill.

Yea i definitely killed the deer. It was kicking around with its front legs for like 20 minutes trying to climb a hill then looked at me and rolled down it a little to where it died. If it does get totaled I will buy a beater car and then have my boss find me a Corvette, like I should have done before I bought the SS. Most likely it won't though.

XtortedCobalt: I live just north of Cobblestone Creek and work in the village at the Corvette dealer.

Dude I hate to see what happened to your car....but I can't believe you let a wounded animal writhe in pain for 20 mins?! Have you never heard of calling animal control or someone else to come and shoot it if it's not safe for you to finish it off?

Maybe there is a circumstance that can explain why you let a wounded animal suffer for nearly half an hour??

I am really lucky that it wasn't any bigger or have it go through my windshield. A friend hit one on New Years and had it hit his windshield and go over the car.

I called the cops as soon as it happened and it took them almost an hour to get there. I wasn't about to walk up to the thing.

it's illegal to do it yourself in most states\areas. i got a stern lecture from a statie 3 years ago for slitting the throat of a deer in front of my house that some minivan had hit, coulda given me more than just that lecture but he didn't.

last deer I hit died more or less instantly. no visible damage to the car...just a broken headlight clip...headlight itself was fine, no cracks or anything. 50mph, only hit it's head with my headlight...was gross looking, it's head was twisted nearly 360°. i was still pretty furious though, probably would have killed it myself.

hate deer...so friggen many of them around here because the hunting laws are ridiculous, so they reproduce faster than they get killed off. no population control.

Actually since i have been so busy at work i have not had the chance to wax it this year. This was just from me washing it like 2 minutes before i hit it. But normally I use a wax called IBIZ. We use it at work on all the Vette's. I was going to spend all day today washing/claying/waxing it because it was 1 year ago today that i picked it up.

victory_red_SS: lol. i'm surprised it took to the 2nd page for some to say that.

BigTizzle903: Yea i will check out where it is compared to Victor. Could you PM me their name/number?

Yea, I doubt it. That is minimal damage... especially for hitting a dear. I put 10k in damage to my car last february and they didnt total it.

Definitely lucky. I dont know if I have ever seen such little damage from hitting a deer. Glad to hear you are ok. And yea I would let the thing walk around on its own too.

Yea everyone at work and even i'm surprised that not more stuff got damaged, at least from what i can see. I have no idea how the fender didn't get hit or even the mirror.

One thing that I have noticed though. I have gotten a lot of looks because of the damage while driving around. Like today i was sitting at a stop light and a car pulled up on my right and the two guys inside both looked right at the hood and then at the rest of the car. So all i do is wave and go on my way.
