truly recommend anyone in cali to go check this place out. truly amazing castle and it's so big that you need 3 different tours to see it all completely. here are some pics.

that road looked like fun to drive in. 5 mile road.

So what exactly is the difference between a mansion and a castle? This looks like another mansion to me now that I look at it. Though "castle" sounds cooler than "mansion"

thanks for all the compliments people.

here are some interesting facts about the castle...

-Hearst Castle was like a small self-contained city, with 56 bedrooms, 61 bathrooms, 19 sitting rooms, 127 acres of gardens, one indoor and one outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, a movie theater, an airfield, and the world's largest private zoo. Zebras and other exotic animals still roam the grounds.
-250,000 total acres on the property.
-Construction began in 1919 and continued through 1947.

That is why it's a Castle and not a Mansion. Although not what I normally envision when I hear the word Castle.

Do you know who built it? What's the history on the family?

William Randolph Hearst owned this castle. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Randolph_Hearst

Julia Morgan designed the castle. She was the first woman allowed to study architecture at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julia_Morgan

So he was basically just left-wing journalist/newspaper conglomerate that published lies? That's hilarious!
