the acr viper does not handle a bit better than a zr1...
the acr did get a faster lap time around the ring but only because it was able to get away with r-compound tires unlike the zr-1 and the transmission was specifically geared for the ring (only a 184 mph top speed)

Opinions are great but lets look at the facts.....a Viper ACR is only $3,500 cheaper than a ZR1 (105,600 to 109,100) So cost isnt "really" an issue. Especially when youre saying the price of the ZR1 is too high, how is 109k for a Vette too high but 105k for a Viper is ok?

It handling a bit better is surely arguable because its been around the 'Ring 4seconds faster. BUT that was the Hardcore version, which is lighter because it doesnt have any audio system, trunk carpet, cabin sound insulation, tire inflator kit, or underhood insulation. Meaning the car is far less drivable than the Vette every day. The ZR1 is like a limo compared to an ACR Hardcore.

The ACR may have also been a stock model but it had to adjusted to run that fast....there was fiddling done with the shock absorbers, rear wing and front lip, it was almost 10seconds slower than the Vette in showroom form, the Vette is much easier to drive fast. And while it could obviously be said the Viper is faster so it wins the reality is that 99.9% of the people out there will be quicker in a ZR1, youre much more likely to adjust the Viper to make it slower than stock than you are to make it faster...

The Vette has a better warranty, gets better fuel mileage, is far better to live with everyday and its highly unlikely that you would ever be able to extract the handling the Viper has out of it, I mean **** it took a pro driver, and factory engineers to get 4 seconds over the course of 13 miles........

And of course if youre talking race cars.......the Vette has destroyed the Viper and virtually every other competitor it ever had in international racing, so much so that it led to the demise of the class!!!!!!! (this isnt new either, back in the 80s the Corvette was banned from SCCA road racing because it just killed every other car)

shoulda...

coulda....

woulda....

This reminds me of when GM had a cts-v competition, invited unskilled drivers with their cars, and raced cars that were way lower in power/price to the cts-v. Gm then bragged about having the best lap time out of the bunch.

Seriously? A pro driver in a higher hp car vs newbs around a track? Thats fair . Seems to me GM got what they deserved. Besides that, the ACR trim comes with those tires. Sorry the zr1 doesnt come with the same tires?

An ACR viper is 98k. The base model is 91k. I mean obviously youre still going to spend a fortune on both cars, but the viper is still cheaper. And I could argue it takes an SC to make the ZR1 on par with the NA V10?

My brother in law has an SRT-10.... Its a nightmare to drive. Another very close freind of mine wiped his out and will never walk again. These cars can go zero to 'you're fuked' in a flash. Im a vette guy through and through, I just find they drive better as a DD. Viper is a nice car tho.

holy **** I read a story on viperforums about a guy who trashed his viper. His exact words were something around the lines of:

" I was cruising around 30 mph, hit the gas and lost control "

Thats insane. I cant even imagine how quick that car is if you can do something like this so easily. The corvette is a better DD thats for sure. It also has "nanny" features unlike the viper. Vipers have absolutely no TCS or traction support. Theyre very unforgiving and nasty to unexperienced drivers.

Just saying. This is the arguement used by the chevy guys more often than not against the termi and gt500.

Last time I checked, that was an open invitation presented to ANYONE and ANY MANUFACTURER to put up their fastest V8 sedan and driver against the CTS-V and Maximum Bob, but (not so surprisingly) no one took them up on the offer because everyone knew they'd just get embarrassed.

All of the other drivers in the other cars were junk. Haha, a stock evo X showed up. That didnt turn out good since that track has lots of straightaway.

The closest competitor was the beemer.

Have you ever seen test runs with guys who are not experienced in a ZR1? Talk about a nightmare to drive!

Seriously though, the viper and zr1 are crap price wise. You can get a gt500 which would be a much better DD than both, TT or prochrage that sucker and still have some change left over for a full suspension.

11 or 10 sec car? Screw that a TT/procharged gt500 is a 9 sec car easily.

You can't fault Lutz, the CTS-V, or GM for the fact that no other Automaker wanted to come out and get their **** pushed in in front of a bunch of reporters...

One of many great lines from Training Day. I'm not saying the movie coined that phrase but that was the first time I ever heard it. God I love that movie.

Yes they both have Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s.........but the Viper has wider rears, and the Corvette uses run flats, and the Viper doesnt, hardly "the same" tire.....

Sure as **** looks to me like this says $105,685 : http://www.dodge.com/hostc/bmo/colors.do Again, only $3,500 cheaper than the Vette, but with less content.......

You could argue it but it would be a silly argument, seeing as how the Vette eninge is smaller, lighter, gets better fuel economy and makes more horsepower and torque......Not to mention the Viper V10 is an epic pain in the ass to work on. Throw in the mix that a good exhaust is $4,000 (as opposed to $2,500 for the Vette), and things just get worse.........
