subtle CAI mod with pics

It had been a while since I've cleaned my CAIntake filter out...so as I was under the car I thought I'd try and find some misc ways to get more air into the car. I found one that I was not really willing to do but thought of another and I hope it works out. My K&N CAI sits right where the stock air box did as I'm sure you all know(maybe a little lower to the ground). The air filter is about 2 inches and directly behind the left fog light. I could take that fog light out....but of course I'm not going to use just one fog light and I'm not going to pull them both out either.
So, considering that of course the CAI sits in front of the tire and really won't get too much water and/or debris directly into it.....I decided to take a box knife and cut a simple hole in the plastic guard in the wheel well directly below the air filter. I figured since it's a hole only the approximate size of the front of the air filter itself and that it has a protactive sleeve over it.... it's a minimal risk. Although very minimal as well, I might get a little extra air. I'm prepared to hear all opinions. Here's a couple similar pics:
(hope i figured out how to post pics properly) ???

Thats actually a good idea. As long as you dont suck up any water.

Hm, I like the idea but I would figure a way to get a fine mesh screen to cover it up just for assurance. Ive seen dings in wierd places on my car, lol.

yeah, I might do that! That would be pretty easy to put a lil safety screen over that. I'll look into it. Whats funny about actually doing this lil mod is I started with a hole the size of a silver dollar....and I re-cut it like 4 times a little bigger...and a little bigger. ha ha I wanted to go bigger but if I did not stop I would have chopped the whole left finder off! LOL The intake definatley does sound a little louder but considering I just cleaned out the air cleaner (which WAS pretty dirty) that might be all that I am hearing.

agreed! i usually use jackstands, and i'll usually put the jack under just in case for extra protection. i'm always worried the car will fall on me when i'm under it!

about this mod, it's definitely different. i would be worried about sucking things up, particularly water. every time you go through a puddle it's going to splash up right into the filter.

Since he has that cover over the filter water will not get into the intake. That thing repules water like crazy! Good idea though. On the SS/SC its a good idea to take out the foglight.

I like the effort but that is something that i wouldn't do for fear of sucking up some water.

i would just completely take off the CAI if were you, cut a huge hole in the hood right by the supercharger intake and just mount a filterless pipe right there, ram air FTW

agreed, the hydrosheild is to deflect small amounts of water, not block out water from a puddle.

Sorry dude, but a much better idea would have been to take the driver's side fog light out. That is just and rainy day hydrolock waiting to happen. Especially for the Charleston, SC area.
