there are people who have snapped stock axles on stock tires....
you might get lucky and get away with it for a while.....but basically going to the track with DRs or Slicks is putting a timer on your axles.
they will go.

and yes. most places are $799 for DSS Stage 2 axles + shipping.

maybe that had something to do with WHEELHOP?

yes, you are putting a timer on your axles, but they aren't going to snap right away. Slicks basically prevent abusive wheelhop because they give a little, Wrinkle wall. But they do put some stress on other drivetrain parts. But slicks themselves, won't snap axles. Abusive driving and wheelhop will.

wheelhop is an easy way to snap them i agree.

but the amount of people who have snapped them before the car even moves off the line is proof that its not wheelhop that destroys all axles.

they just arent going to put up with that much torque with that much load.

The reason people snapped them before the car moves, is because they had already abused the drivetrain with wheelhop, which had weakend the axles. There are plenty of people with slicks that have been running them for a while with minor problems.

I'm not in denial, I'm pretty sure I'll probably break one, but it won't be BECAUSE of the slicks, it'll be becuase I abused my drivetrain already some with wheelhop and what not and then the axles just kind of "helped" break them with the added stress.

You can't honestly tell me that by slapping on some slicks that I'm GUARANTEED to snap an axle my first launch.

I can't guarantee you will, but I do think it'll happen unfortunately. I snapped my axle at the track on the first pass before the 60' mark! I had the axles replaced and put in an Ingalls TD and was goo to go the next track venture. Then I went DSS Stage 2 axles, Exedy Hypersingle clutch, and my 235/45/17 Toyo T1R's aired down my tranny grenaded 3rd when I shifted up into it. No grinds or nothing it just came from together and shot the parts throught the case!

More so than the axles dying, I am worried about people trannys after all these mods with slicks. No I am going to do full mounts when I get back, but I am scared to take the car to the track again needless to say.

hey man, I completely agree with you. My axles may break. But I seriously doubt they do on the first pass. I'm not going to just dump the clutch.

a guy on the forums pm'ed me from my WTB add and said he'd give these to me for 200. You should be able to find some locally or something if you have a local forum. Or just search on ebay or post on wtb adds on different forums.

More people break becuase of wheel hop (stock cobalts) i will give you that, but once you run slicks you are asking for trouble.

I'm still running the slicks. That's the reason I bought them. I didn't buy them to look at. I want traction and I'm tired of my shitty 60ft. and I'm tired of reading about other people's shitty 60ft.

When I get back sunday night, everyone can read about my awesome 60ft. and my rediculous e.t. with my trap speed.

hopefully the weather will be good to us. Man I really want to go to the track.

Yes, but I never made it to the track with methanol injection. So this will be a first time with that.

Here is my Mods list for this sunday:
CXRACING front mount H/E
Water/meth injection
Solid Motor mounts
Exhaust cutout
MT ET Streets 26x10.5x16
Slight HP TUNE

basically running the meth for cooling purposes, but I will be bumping the timing up since I will be using meth.

I trapped 101 on every pass last time out. Mods then were cobra h/e, solid motor mounts, cutout, raised rev limit.

oh, sorry man, I didn't see that you had responded to this thread again.

No other mods, stock pulley, stock injectors. Stock everything else except what I posted.

Here's some pics of the slicks. THEY FIT PERFECT. Whoever said they were too big doesn't know what they were talking about.

did over a 100mph on them today, NO RUBBING! I heard a couple different things from a couple different people. Looks like I got the right offset rims.
