What brand of camera?
What brand of camera?
Hey guys I know that a lot of you are big into photography on here so I figured as someone who is less experienced in this area I would come to you. I'm interested in buyin a new camera because mine seems to be on its way out. I'm wondering what brands you guys use or would recommend and also if possible some specific models. I'm looking to spend apporximately $400-$600 on one as I plan on using it a lot this summer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mods if this is in the wrong section please move it. I just figured pics and vids would be a good place to start. Thanks all.
Nikon or Cannon is your best bet (IMO). Go down to bestbuy and play around with the cameras and see which one feels best in your hands. When it comes time to buy your camera http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ is your best friend. I would think you could pick up a entry level DSLR for about 600$ maybe just a bit more.
Also, keep in mind that mega pixels are not everything. ALOT depends on the processors in the camera and the lense(s) you use.
I personally shoot with a Nikon D40, I chose it because it felt best in my hands and it offered what I was looking for. I know some others will chime in here and give you some more suggestions!

I would say the Nikon D40, it's right in your price range.

First of all, what kind of camera are you looking to buy?
Point and Shoot
Digital SLR-style
Digital SLR
I would like to point out one of the that the D40 and D40x only accept digital lenses, so older Nikkor film lenses will not auto-focus on the Nikon D40. This can cause two problems.
1.) digital lenses are more expensive becuase the AF motor is built into the lens
2.) most of Nikons best lenses do not have the AF-S system built in.

$400-$600 is usually going to be an "entry level" camera, canon and nikon both make some nice cameras but with the nikon "entry levels" your getting a nicer camera for the money
go to like circuit city or like cameras west to check them out in person
...you'll end up liking the nikons more
