Fog light button

I'm modding my base G5 and have an SS/GT front w/fogs. My base did not have the interior trim panel with the fog button, though. How does the stock fog button attach to that panel? Can I just get a stock fog button and attach it to my panel? I know I'd need to cut into it, which is no problem. Or do I just need to get the panel with the fog and dimmer?

I'd just get the panel, IMO. Cutting is going to look half-assed because the button sits inside the hole, so you're going to see where it was cut.

It's a weird hole. If you're planning on using the stock style button, you'll 100% want the factory trim piece with the hole already in place. It mounts in there kinda funky back there and isn't just a hole. On the other hand, if you're just planning on using a generic button from AutoZone or something...drilling will be just fine

Yeah, I was hoping to keep it stock looking...

How then does the stock button connect to the factory plate with the fog hole? is there a tab or something on the back that it mates to?

Drilling and plastic don't go together that well. And what this post says - it's not just a hole, it's kind of tapered at the edge IIRC. For what it'll cost you, it's best to do it right the first time and just get the piece of trim. If you can find a wrecked Cobalt with fogs at a junkyard, you could probably pick it up for under $10.

I have been looking for a while now, but no one around me has it... ebay has one in silver, but my trim is the carbon fiber (G5). I may just have to go w GM dealer.
Thanks

Try Crate Engine Depot first, they sell all the trim pieces and they're usually about 25% less than what it costs at the dealer.

Yeah the fake CF trim is harder to come by. I'm on CED's site now and they don't list the individual pieces, just the kit, but I'm sure if you give Tom a call he can sell you just that trim piece.

It has a mounting plate in the back kind of that it slips into like a glove. I don't know how to explain it, just trust me when I say a simple hole will not work with the OEM button. I've taken the thing apart about 20 times painting it different colors and I can assure you...the button will not seat in just a hole. If I feel up to it when I get home from work, I'll take it apart and post a pic of the back of that panel.

I don't know if it'll help (depends on your level of video game anger managment I guess), but the best way I can think to describe it is it's like the plate on the inside of a joystick controller.

That's fail. That's really fail actually. I don't know the part number, or else I'd say try GMPD next. Without a part number, you're kind of up the creek on that one though. I just hate to see people pay dealer mark up on crap like this.

I think I have the part no, I'll check with my local GM dealership and see if they'll give me a deal. If no, GMPD.

I have the wire harness for headlights and fogs, and the wiring to connect a button/switch is right behind that interior panel, so if worse comes to worse, I'll just get an aftermarket button and drill out a hole in the panel i have now... That carbon fiber piece w fog and dimmer is a PITA to come by!

if you are going to drill out a hole in the panel, make sure to cover the finish with tape to not get it scratched, center it properly, and make you are drilling the correct size hole, trying to redrill a hole is a bitch and never works nicely. if you over do the size, there's no going back and your sol
