few small issues with my 05 SS

So I have had my car just over a month and have about 2600 miles on it, my driving has slowed way down finally as far as how much I drive. But, on to the problems.

Was coming home one night, went to roll on it first to 2nd and the shift knob flew off! I was like oh WTF! I took it back to the dealer and we used some double sided tape and it's been fine since.

Second problem, after the car has wheel hopped a few times in the snow from going slushy crap to dry pavement my exhaust is either pulling apart of has broken just under the pass side floor board. My dealer was like your 4yr 48k warranty does not cover that..... hmm BS!

The car has 79k on it, I meant I have put 2600 on it in the month I have had it lol. But I can hear the heatshield rattle and it has a big leak cause my mpg took a huge dive.... >.<

Do these cars have flew pipes off the DP, since that is what kept breaking on my old FWD Turbo Talon... I'm probably getting it up on a hoist tomorrow to take a peak.

they do but the stock downpipe's flex pipe is extremely strong. its not a traditional flex pipe you would find on a header for example

If you car is and 05' the 4 yr 48K mileage warranty wouldn't cover it. It's 4yrs or 48K miles, whichever comes first.

unless its the cat. easy way to tell if the cat is the cause of the rattling is jack it up and take a mallet or your hand and bang on the cat a little bit (just enough to cause movement) if it rattles then the cat internals have broken apart. which should be covered under the special emissions warranty.

Flexpipe is extremely WEAK, there's even a thread on here about how they've broken so much, mine broke causing an exhaust leak. I think they're may even be a goodwill recall on them, horrible design

ya i dunno maybe, i had one cat replaced due to faulty internals and i still have the 2nd one in my closet at home as i've since upgraded to a zzp header with highflow cat dp. i also worked for GM for 6 years and never saw too many cats being replaced because of the flexpipe breaking, mainly because they clogged or the internals fell apart.

Nope, it was the factory flexpipe, they were tearing at the seams

for the shifter knob you can do that but it may come off again. You'll need a new shift assembly either oem or a aftermarket STS.

for the exhaust, I didnt think a leak AFTER the cat/o2 sensor would cause a mpg drop. Jack your car up and take a look. Also see if you can get your cat looked at. Bad cats will make mpg horrible. Maybe its bad but not bad enough to throw a cel yet. You need to look at your exhaust though, could be a leak in the dp.

GM will not cover the cat if you don't have a CEL. If you decide to replace it anyways, it may not be covered under the same warranty. Depending if the new one is a GM part.
The flex pipes are crap...my 04 ion QC2 had one go bad, and I'm pretty sure the factory one on my 05 ss is now going to crap.

Had the car on the hoist today, the flex is torn at the bottom seam so it's time to weld it up until I can afford a LT. But on the plus side the car is really clean with no rust, just noticed the doors have the paint peeling like everyone else's.

Well problem solved after I told the warranty people to shove it, got a ZZP 2.5 DP with a high flow cat. Now the car is going to get tuned next week!

The shift knob problem is well known for the 2005's. Mine did the same thing. The 05's were just press fit, so they had a nasty tendency of popping off.

Here's the TSB:
05-07-29-006A FEB 06 M/T - Shifter Knob Loose/Detached From Shift Lever

The original TSB said to use tape to fasten, but later revisions directed the dealer to use a screw.
