Hello all....this is my first post on this forum...I have done the cruise control mod to my 09 Cobalt LS..everything went good. I bought a donor steering column from a wrecker and the old BCM connector for the wires.....i installed the cruise control onto my original steering wheel...used the harness inside the steering wheel from donor column and ran 2 wires from the back side of SIR on the column, down to my BCM...I have power to the new Cruise module and the info buttons work like they should...when I took my vehicle to a mechanic he told me that the BCM was locked and all he could change was my wheel size...I called local GM dealer and I was told I would have to buy a new BCM and have it programed..the mechanic charged me $120 to tell me that BCM was locked...took them about an hour ..mechanic said he tried to flash BCM from internet...no luck...so I am into this for about $250 right now...not sure if I have wasted my time and money...please help.....!!!!!!!guess what I really want to now is if GM is blowing smoke or are they right...can I somehow unlock the BCM so a tech 11 is able to turn the cruise option on?

 

I havent had this issue yet, the BCM only locks to the VIN, I havent had any where the only option changeable was tire size.

 

hm...ok...well can ya help me out cause thats what I am dealing with....is there something the tech has to do with the tech II

Yes you have to go into the BCm with the tech2 and select the cruise control option

Why would you go through all that? because for instance I know in 2008 models cruise control was essentially a $1700 option. you need to upgrade from an LS to an LT and then it was like another $300 option. So I installed cruise in my LS, and since then quite a few other people have as well.

like I said my bcm is locked according to mechanic.....he can't get in with the tech 2....does anyone one have any info on how to unlock a bcm...or has anyone run into this problem
not getting anywhere here...so far just drivle...lol

Success...lol....finally found someone compitent on the GM Tech 2 scanning tool...he had me up and running in about 15 mins....I know have cruise control...was wondering about ABS...does anyone know if this is something fairly easy to upgrade to?Mechanic showed me options in the tech 2...ABS was one of them..it is turned off in my BCM...is this an easy upgrade to ABS brakes?
