2.4L Engine Coolant Temp Sensor Faulty.

So, I was driving down the road, had the music blarin had some friends in the car.

Looked down, noticed my coolant said 302* F. WTF! Then it paused then jumped to 252* F...then to 74* F...then it went ---.

I've never had a engine coolant issue before.

Keep in mind, it didnt go from 302 then slowly goto 252..it literally just changed from 302 to 252..then to 74.

Scanned the car, ran a P0117. Ok. Its my sensor.

Goto auto zone...grab it.

Last night, replaced the sensor. Plugged it in. Awesome! it actually showed a temperature! (plugged it up outside of the car..so it read ambient temp)

So we unscrewed the old one...screwed in the new..plugged it in.

Awesome. It was workin!

Went to auto zone to see if they would clear the codes....they wouldnt do it. (Some new law)

Fine.

Well, i go, decided to get the car all nice and warm.

Temp was at 189* where it should of been. Was workin excellent. Me and my buddy get back to the apartment, and park on a slight hill (very slight), temp started jumpin all over the place again.

Ok, maybe theres just an air pocket. No big deal.

So I head to a parking lot where my friends were...we were going down the road...temp was at 196...i punch it.

The car was getting COOLER...it slowly dropped to 128*. Wtf?

Now, as i'm bleading the air...my car reads --- again.

Any ideas? Faulty Sensor from Auto Zone? More problems other than that?

Any ideas would be awesome!

dude i dont know but i have a 2.4 just like you and this coolant thing is retarded. it starts throwing codes just whenever it feels like (coolant codes). It doesnt jump all over the place like you said yours does but sometimes it will read " --- F" and then the CEL will come on. then about 50+ miles later it will disappear. On top of that it ONLY happens when its like 70 degrees or colder outside. Or something close to that temperature. It bothers me but not enough to go get it fixed right now. I still have a broken ass air conditioning system in 100+ degree weather here in Southeast Georgia.
