2007 Cobalt already in the shop with bad MAF
I just bought my car on Wednesday afternoon, only have 127 miles on the odometer my car is a 07 Cobalt SS Supercharged I went to drive it today ont he interstate and the service engine soon light came on, took it to a dealership they said it was just a glitch and erased the code. Then I drove some more and the light came on again so I took the car to a different dealership and they actually gave me the time of day and pulled the Filter and MAF off and well the Air Filter was corroded and falling apart and it sucked it up into the MAF and messed it up.
The GM tech also showed me that there is a snorkel that supplies the fresh air into the intake box that aims straight up and I guess when it rains and wash the car it gets water into the air filter housing and the filter sits in water and messed up the filter. They figured that happen while it sat on the lot for sale. What a great design by GM engineers!!! The GM tech also told me it will prolly be a recurring issue with the way the design is. What a great thing to learn about after you buy the car.
Has anyone else had this issue??

so the air box mod is just taking the bottom off the airbox??
What would be a good intake to put on there?
This is prolly a stupid question. Will GM void warranty if they see the intake on there if I do put an aftermarket one on???

The air box mod is taking off the stock box, and using a dremel to cut it in half almost, then attaching an intake filter on the end. Some people use AEM dry filters, which from what I hear aren't worth crap when they are wet, but is the best filter. Others place a K&N one on there or an Injen filter. I see that you are new, so you need to explore the site some more. The How-To forum gives awesome detailed steps on how to do it.
If you have a good dealer, they won't say anything about the intake...Injen is what most people use...I put mine on with a little trouble though bracket was improperly bent or placed on the wrong spot...had to do some bending of my own to make it fit...not to mention bending some of the metal on the car where it fits through...there isn't much space what-so-ever, so I wanted to make sure mine wouldn't rub...some people have had it rub a hole right through it. K&N is another...
