Question 2008 cobalt ss TC p0011 code

I have had this code come up a few times and went away on its own and now it's back again. The scan tool is telling the that intake camshaft position timing is over advanced. I have been reading some threads and everyone that is having this code is with the 2.4 and I looked it up at my work and the code doesn't even apply to my 2008 cobalt ss 2.0 TC. I'm hopping that someone on here could help me and tell me if I need to do what everyone else is doing replacing the camshaft position solenoid.. also I'm not clear on if my car is VVT or not due to it being turbocharged.

Thanks, Dustin

It does have VVT.

Usually this code means a bad camshaft actuator solenoid valve. May as well test both. They are the two cylinder things that stick straight up from the valve cover on the passenger side. Go get your multimeter, or if you don't have one buy one from Harbor Freight for like $4 (you only need to measure resistance, I do not recommend using those POSes for anything else other than huge differences in resistance and open/closed circuit checks). Unplug the actuator, check the resistance across the leads. If it is outside of 10-12 ohms then replace the actuator. Mine was like 25 ohms, I replaced and fixed it.

Okay thank you I'll pull my car in after work and test it. I Didn't know if my car had VVT because of the turbo but also when I looked up the code on always they didn't have anything specific for my year and model.

It definitely does, and it's a common issue for nearly all GM VVT's of the era.

they did update the part number. I didn't have a problem after I replaced mine. I think the solenoid is more like $80 new

Unhappy

I tested it the exhaust side was 12 ohms but the intake side was 200 ohms

yup, you need a new intake solenoid valve. Easy fix.

Replace both solenoids with the newer part number. I had my exhaust one go bad and they are cheap enough to replace both at once.
