Unhappy 2008 SS Turbo Fuel injector

Hey, I was wondering if this is something that a normal human can fix? My check engine light came on and I had it checked and was told that there is a misfire on the 4th cylinder..... I have been searching high and low to how I can fix this.... I do not want to spend $600 plus to get it fixed at a shop... Please help

Hello Linzie,

It may not be a very expensive fix. Have the plugs and coil pack been checked? If not check those. If the plug is bad, replace it. If not, swap the coil pack around to a different cylinder. If the misfire follows to a different cylinder then that is your problem.

This, way before going to changing a fuel injector. If you have over 75k on a stock car just change the spark plugs (only use stock AC Delco plugs) as a maintenance point, but move the coil pack to see if it's the problem.

pretty easy to fix honestly.

Pull Fuel pump fuse
Start car. let it die
Remove lower CP
Remove intake manifold
Unbolt fuel rail.
Replace fuel injector

but yes, I agree with Ecaulk and Scythesnake

Try plugs first. LNF fuel injectors usually dont go bad that often.

Remember, stock ACDelco plugs are best at close to stock gap. Can be had for $4-5 a piece.

If u end up doing the injector, look at ur valves while the manifold is off. If they are pretty bad, could also be the issue

also, if you do your injectors, get the LNF injector seal kit incase you damage the blue seals. Ask me how I know!

Replace fuel injector
So I changed the plugs and coil, still running bad. I talked with a couple different places, Dealership says it would cost $960 for them to replace 1 fuel injector in my car, apparently the SS Turbocharged makes everything expensive. I also was going to see if I had a fuel injector what the shop up the street would do it for, since they initially told me $650.... well my dad talked to him and he said he doesn't know if he can do it correctly because the dealership when he was going to order the part said now remember you need this tool to do this ...... is there something special that I am missing... Every time someone tells me or yeah this is easy to do yourself, then why does it cost so much for a pro to do it? Is it really something I should be messing with??

Ok so with the LNF being direct injected we have the high pressure fuel injectors. To replace one individual fuel injector is actually not as easy as just replacing all 4 at once. You should be able to find a good used set of injectors.

For reference here is what it looks like: (these would work but it requries a new tune)
Ecotec Parts Opel HP Direct Injection Fuel Injectors - Fueling

The special tools they are talking about are probably for the o-rings on the injectors. Yes they require a special tool. But if you buy a full injector set plus rail they will have everything ready to install usually.

So again, your best option is to find a stock set of injectors+fuel rail all in one package. You can search on here for a set, ask ZZP if they have any for sale, or ask CrateEngine Depot how much a set is.

It's an easy job, it just takes time. If you do go the route of replacing an injector get a new PCV valve for the intake manifold (like a $15 part) might as well replace it while you're there since its damn near the same labor to replace.

If you go this route you can hit up this guy and get the injector seal tool for a deposit and return it and get your money back

Order o new injector and order the new seals that are E85 compatible
http://www.crateenginedepot.com/LNF-...95-P18283.aspx

Replace the PCV and replace the intake manifold gasket as well. Will cost $20-30 to replace both total and worth the peace of mind.

Here is the PCV in the manifold

What part of Kansas are you in.

Surely to god we can find someone to do it for cheap for you.

Injector on Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-217-3.../dp/B001DX7VVE

Injector $135
PCV valve $10
Manifold Gasket $10
O-Ring Kit $40
Total $195

I'm still guessing you could find an entire fully assembled fuel rail and injectors for cheaper, but this price is for new.

Instructions for install of fuel rail. I personally have not seen how a single injector fits into the rail.

-Let car sit overnight OR remove fuel pump module and start the car and let it die
-Remove IM
-Remove the pipe supply fuel to the fuel rail from the HPFP (why you're needing to let it sit, so no pressure is in there still)
-Remove bolts holding in rail and electrical connection going to pressure sensor on the end
-Pull out the rail

-Push in new rail
-Bolt it back in and connect electrical connection to the pressure sensor on the end
-Reconnect the fuel pipe between the rail and the HPFP
-Reinstall the IM

As far as the special tool, I made a how-to detailing how to install the injector seals: https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/how-...ls-lnf-315067/ It is not hard. I have a tool to rent, but it is out at the moment. If someone asks for it, I can ping them. However, I'd think a new injector should have the seal already on it. As mentioned, I'd have a look at the valves before replacing the injectors.

Omg, almost a grand to replace fuel injector? Seeing as u can get all 4 and a rail at zzp for 350 and install takes literally half and hour to an hour. Id tell them where to go and to take a stick when they get there and how far to shove that stick up their bum

Then you're fine. The black seal is the ethanol-compatible seal, the white is the original.

Man I had never thought of it till you said white seal. The black seals are E85 compatible. You could have purchased a 2010 injector and it would have had the black seal.

Nbd.

But as said above, this is something an average mechanic can pull off in an hour or two. I"m sure a dealer goes by the book which is probably 4-6 hrs or something stupid.

First time taking it down and being careful putting it together will take 3-6h depending on skill level. Tom you've torn into the car a lot so its not a big deal for you, others are not as proficient.

I'm not saying the dealer quoted price isn't ridiculous, they should be able to complete the job in under 2h, given their profession is to repair things.
