3rd brake light stays on

My 3rd brake light stays on all the time for some reason. The only way to turn it off is by disconnecting the battery. Anyone know what's wrong? I'll check the fuse tommorow

fuse? no buddy, you have a short somewhere between the BCM and the trunk light.

pull out the carpet that is under the truck lid. including the cover over the lights. start moving the wires around. I am pretty sure there is a wire exposed. If I am not mistaking, the positive wire going to most lights on most gm cars are always hot. The BCM just grounds the circuit for the light to come on. you might just have something grounded that is going to the middle light.

ummm.... maybe the sensor or whatever is fucked up. There is some sort of sensor that when you hit the brake it sends it power. Orrr you have a short in the wire or something.

Sorry to burst your bubble, or sound like an ass. The stop light switch cannot be the culprit. If the switch was bad, all three brakes lights would stay on, not just the middle one.

unless hes only talking when the car is off, in which case only the 3rd would be on. with the key out of the ignition the other 2 brake lights don't work. Id still check that switch if you cant find a short

You were both right, all 3 brake lights stay on when the car is on, only 3rd when car is off sorry I didn't mention this earlier, I didn't know until you guys point it out to me.

Now the question is where is the sensor?

(im posting this cuz the person that knows cant post yet.))

it is the brake lamp switch. the reason the other lights shut off with the key is because thats a battery saver function.

gm would have all the tails shut off but if thats not safe, so they shut off all the brake lamps with the key off except the 3rd lamp. i see it way to much at work

yes it was the brake lamp switch, for some reason the metal which needs to hit the switch was bent out of place.
