Canada 50K maintaince to-do list

Hey, guys,

I'm running around 50K those days and I was wondering who's maintaining their Cobalts themselves. I hated going to the f**kin "stealer" to let them work on my car, and probably will get ripped of... I change oil and rotate tires by myself, but couldn't find the air filter anywhere, any ideas?
and what's the to-do list for a 50k cobalt???

ummm, I don't mean to bash you or anything... but if you can't find the air filter you should just take it to a shop.

it's all the way to the left of the engine above the headlight in a black box. there should be a few clips around it then the top just slides off and the a/f is inside.

I know your average 60k service includes your normal oil change, rotate tires. It also calls for a new air filter, fuel filter, tranny flush, lubricate the door hinges, replace cabin air filter, inspect the brakes, replace pcv valve, change thermostat and coolant, and inspect the mounts. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

that being said all of your service intervals should be with your owner's manual. There's a separate book with it that has all your maintenance info.

Thanks for all the infor. I didn't think a/f is a big deal for the first 50k...but there are quiet a few items I'm not aware how to do, any one have like a guide of how to do the maintenance?

I'm pretty sure you're supposed to change the a/f every 15k

I tried searching for a haynes/chilton manual for the cobalt. But nothing. try getting a manual for a late model cavalier. It more or less the same except for some electrical systems.

Other than that try looking through the how-to section

nope, wrong. sig says an 05 ss. which makes it an ss s/c. which means the air filter is a recommended 50000 mile change. and its located behind the front bumper and requires removal of the left front tire and fender liner to unscrew the bottom of the airbox to remove.

sry, guess I didn't look into it enough.

so it's one of those full box style a/fs? Replaced one on a focus one time. Costs like $120 for a new one. Would explain why he couldn't find it.

I'm pretty sure that GM sells a complete manual on the car. Just give them your vin# and they can look it up. Whether or not it's worth it ($$$-wise) is another story. I havent yet checked into this, it's just what I heard.

Thanks for all the info guys, I was wondering if any of ur guys changed brakes already, and how did u do it and how much it cost? I start to hear some noise when braking and thinkin about take it to dealer. They said they need to take a look at it first to decide what to be changed. I know that's not a good sign, so...

Pull off your wheels and see if you have any pad left. If your rotors seem grooved then you might have eaten through the pads. What model car do you have?

I have an 05 cobalt ss/sc. I inspected the pads early early this year, it was still in good shape. I expect it might be waring off a bit... where is a good place to buy those brakes? I haven't found any in my local, so...

hawk brakes are good and didnt read all the posts so dont know if you ever found your air filter so ill tell you how to anyway lol ...ok so you have a ss/sc there airfilters are rediculous to get to haha you have to remove the driver side front wheel and then remove the plastic on the wheel well thats screwed to the front bumper you dont have to take the entire wheel well off once you get enough off that you can work in there just push the plastic back so the rotor holds it out of your way while you work...

im pretty sure there is instructions on how to do this in the HOW TO GUIDE forum search it...if theres a hot to for the install on a CAI then itll show you where it is if dont understand

Appriciate the detailed instruction. I'll need to find some time to either replace it or just take it out and clean it. About the brakes, hawk pads, I live in Ontario, is there any dealer or shop I can check it out?
