ABS light on

Tonight when i started up my car, my ABS light came on, not sure why. Today was one of the first days it got below freezing outside. What would cause this besides a bad sensor?

Could the below freezing temperatures be a reason why my abs stopped working? Also is this covered under my warranty? i still got a full bumper to bumper warranty on my cobalt.

did you check your sensor to make sure its fully plugged in? its possible water got in and froze, popping the clip holding the sensor/wires in. i know when one wheel gets unplugged, the whole system shuts down.

if its anything other than that, the dealer ought to be able to take care of it.

where do i find the sensor?

Also, would this be covered under my warranty or no? If its not i can get it done cheaper at a local mechanic shop rather then a dealer. But if this would be under warranty then i will let my dealership take care of it. The service department isnt open today so i cant phone them, i will have to wait until tomorow.

Embarassing a bit though, i was showin off my car to a few people at a party last night when this came on lol

The sensors are at the wheels, not sure exactly where but...imo this would be a warranty issue. Unless you ran over something that cut a wire or something like that.

Get it to the dealer, let them fix it.

well i like to get ideas to what it is so when i bring it to the dealer i give them input and let them know that i want it fixed, not just the code cleared. It goes in tomorow morning to the dealership, its covered under warranty.

samething happened with me... but I was out of warranty. I was given a grace warranty. Cuz I thought my warranty gave out at 40k but it was 36k. Anyways even though they replaced it, my abs and tc light comes on still.

So I read this, and wondered. So I went out onto my road and got up to 60 km/hr, and slammed on the brakes. Not only did I keep going, my wheels locked up and I was sliding along the ice beaten path, I could hear the tires making noises. I let off the brake and drove it home. No vibrations on the pedal of the abs doing it's thing. Is this normal? My dad's old durango's brake pedal would vibrate to prevent locking up.

My ABS light came on one day after work. I restarted the car hasnt came on since. Could be a bad sensor, the ABS ground wire could be loose, sometimes if u get water or ice on the sensor itll come on. If it stays in i would take it to the dealer. It should turn off if u restart ur car otherwise u got a problem.

mine never turned off, but its all fixed now, even the humming noise is gone, it sounded like i just had really loud tires so i just assumed this car had a lot of road noise lol. But apparently that was the hub and bearing because now that they replaced that and fixed the abs, the car is much quieter on the highway.

Um....yeah ABS is an option on the LS......I wouldn go doing any 60k panic stops on ice to test anything anymore.

open your hood, look on the frame rail/body behind the drivers headlight, if you have a little metal block with 6 brake lines coming out of it, you dont have ABS. if you do have ABS youll have a much larger(10cmx10cm) box with brake pipes and a large electrical connector.

Well, it wasn't much of a panic stop. I was on the brake for about five seconds. I'll check tomorrow before I leave for work to see if it's there. I gotta put my block heater cord on the outside so it works when it's -18ºc. :P It's -37ºc here now.
