I'm looking at getting my front pads and rotors on my 09 SS changed.

the dealership will be doing the work since i've heard too many horror stories about the caliper pins being seized and other crap i prefer not to deal with.

im about to order the pads/rotors/pins kits from CED since dealership quoted me ceramic pads and crap rotors. i wanted OEM ferodos and good rotors and they didn't seem to know what OEM meant.

anyone have any insight into anything else i may need? i'd hate to need something else and have the stealership charge me more for extra parts i could have gotten cheaper elsewhere.

are the pins really required? the car is a summer car only and garage kept. brakes have about 70,000km on them and have been untouched for 3 1/2 years.

i was also told i should change my brake fluid/bleed the brakes as the fluid breaks down after a few years.

please advise

The only way to know about the pins is to check. Put a small flat faced pick against it and tap with a hammer. I luckily have never had problems with them being seized and ive had the car for almost 5 years.

Honestly man do them yourself. It isn't a tough job at all and if you are being truthful that the car doesn't see snow or salt then your pins will be fine.

As cheap as they are I replace them anyway. Piece of mind.

ya pins were $50 for both sides. rotors are 64 each and pads are 173. shipping is $150.

all from CED. about $500 for parts.

i'd do them myself but i fear having them apart and then something goes wrong and i can't drive it anywhere to have it rectified. also i'd rather not **** around with brakes. not that i don't think im capable but for some reason the brembos worry me.

I found the pads for $130ish on amazon, and the rotors cheaper with free shipping there too. My pins never seized for 40k miles and that's when I was driving it in Michigan winter/salt.

sounds good! i just want to make sure they are the right pads and rotors and not some aftermarket garbage.

ferodo makes the pads and rotors not sure.

i've had bad experiences in the past with cheap aftermarket replacement brake parts. the stock setup on these cars is bulletproof!

changing pads looks easy. changing rotors i'm not sure of.

no I haven't done them unfortunately but I can come if you decide to do them yourself and could use an extra pair of hands.

I'm going July 1st and 14th. there is a school on July 1st so you could track it if they have any spots left.

With changing the rotors all you do is unbolt the 2 bolts on the back of the caliper, they will come off easy then swap out the rotors and re-bolt the caliper back on. easy as pie man

You really should it's really easy there's a how to thread on here where he change his pads and rotors nice breakdown and pics check it out see if it is something for you but definitely check out amazon.com I just did my pads and rotors got all of the stuff for right at $250

i would love to find it on amazon but i am afraid i'll end up with an aftermarket part as i stated earlier. hell the dealership was ready to sell me ceramic pads. i said um.. are they made by ferodo? are they what comes on the car from the factory? he said he didn't know.

CED has never steered me wrong although truth be told they didn't seem to know much about the pads either. i wish manufacturers stated that it's what came on the car originally. "OEM part" doesn't tell ya **** except it will fit.

besides all i ever find on amazon are stoptech or street plus whatever the **** that is..

There is another thread on here that I cannot find because I am on mobile that has the GM part numbers for all the parts that you need im put those into Amazon.com and you should be good

You do it yourself, find that a caliper pin is seized. It costs you a couple hundred at CED for a new one, and the car sits on stands for a couple of days waiting for it.

Or

You send it to a shop where you will pay a lot for a brake job even if there are no issues. They find that a caliper pin is seized. It costs you list + for the new caliper and the car sits for a few days while they wait for a new one to come in. What's more, they do not want to tie up a lift for 1 to 2 days waiting for one to come in, so they drag it out of the shop, and then push it back in when the caliper comes.

Not a bad idea to check to see if the pins are stuck before you order all you gotta do is take off the wheel and it should come out when you lightly tap it with a hammer and a punch mine did it every time 3x

I got my rotors and pads all OEM off Amazon with free shipping. Think it was something like $350 for new **** all around

I was lucky I had the help of Matt O (Omiotek) when doing mine, but they were so straight forward that I could have figured it out on my own.

amazon.com wants $224.35 for two rotors and full set of pads.

but they want $521 for shipping because it's international to Canada... wtf. so $748 all together with fees.

searched amazon.ca no hits for any brake parts. lame.

i guess unless i have an american address that i could drive to, im stuck going with CED.
