Well since my CV Axles/Joints have 30k+ on them at the stock ride height and now the car is lowered on sportlines Im gonna replace them with some after market OE axles. And hope that the vibration will go away. And hope I dont develope a clicking. That would drive me crazy nuts to hear that all the time, the vibration is bad enough. Im trying to get this vibration issue settled so I can get my tires.

I have had this clicking before as well. I and another cobalt member here have gone in and had them lube the axle shafts. It fixes the problem, but only temporarily. After they lubed my axles, the clicking was gone for atleast 6 months, then it came back again.

Try getting them to lube the axles, and see if that works. It may just be a bandaid for a larger problem, but if they tell you they dont know what to do, you can atleast get them to lube the axels since it isnt difficult.

*I'm a site lurker*

But I will second this. Lowering a vehicle with cv axles will generaly speaking, cause the joint to bind and create excess wear.

Whats funny is I have had a SRT4 (lowered) Mazda PR5 (lowered) Hyundai Tiburon GT (lowered) All front wheel drive cars with CV Axles. And NON, I repeat NON had the slightest vibration or clicking or any other problem due to the lowering. So Im starting to think that GM cars are as I have always thought not the best in the world. I know I will get flamed for that statement but hey I have seen problem after problem with the balt more so than any of the other above mentioned cars I have owned. Again Im gonna install new Axles soon and see what that does.

Yeah, and they got mad at me when I told them that couldn't be it. I explained to them that a friend of mine that has a cobalt also with the same noise, doesnt have a strut bar and still has the noise. And whats worse, is the mechanic didnt even know what it was. He popped the hood so he could point to what he thought was causeing the problem cause he didnt know the name for the strut bar. Needless to say, I have never been back there..

Man that is classic. It just proves that bringing it to the dealer is a waist of time. I think what Im gonna do to solve my vibration problem, since I have a feeling that installing new axles isnt gonna make a bit of difference is sell my sportlines and pick up a set of prokit springs. The rate is stiffer than stock but they dont have the extreme drop the sportlines have. Maybe that along with some new axles (since Im sure I have stressed the stockers in one way or another) will solve my problem. Anybody got a set of Eibach Prokit springs they want to trade for my sportlines.

I'm workin on it! Good description though. I always tried to describe the sound but could never get people to understand what I mean. The more people say that this is "normal", the more dealerships will think its normal too. Its NOT. Its ******* annoying and it makes the car sounds like a piece of scheisse.

I know its terrible and I cant stand it but I dont want to go to the dealership and have them check something that I cant point directly out and say its the axles or my bushings. Because most of the time the dealership will say well we cant find anything so nothing is wrong.

I have found that I have a noise too which sounds like the clicking of a pen also. When I stop at a light or stop sign. If I hold the brake and put it in first and let out the clutch slowly, right when the clutch grabs it does the "Click" . To me it like when you have slack on a rope and then you pull fast and it takes up the slack. It picks up the slack and it does the click. I have no idea what it could be??

Mine makes a clicking noise too. I had a mechanic drive mine and he said it sounded like the wheel bearings. I didnt really think about it being the axles lol.

This sound happens about a couple times a year. What I have been doing is having the techs lube the axle shafts and clicking is gone for a couple months. I think its just a band-aid, but it works in the mean time..

Lube the axle shafts ??
Where do they put the lub ??

Also, the sound is almost like a cv joint when there is play in it. When the slack is all gone it snaps or clicks. But it is not the cv joint because it does it everytime I let the clutch out until it grabs.
It is such a headache and I have no idea what to do to get it to stop. Any help ?

Well with the clicking I heard, which may be different than others, they lubed the "front axle shaft"

IThat is the direct quote from the techs because when the clicking started up again, i went to a different dealer and had to tell them exactly what the techs said they lubed..

I had an 05 SS and this problem happened to me. It took me about five dealership visits before they finally found it. They fixed it and I completely don't remember what the hell it was but it was really hard for this really good tech to find. So today schmobbin in my 06 SS the problem just started!!!!!!
