barely avoided serious problems...

So im driving to the store with the gf. She was craving chocolate (monthly visitor heh). Anyways I park the car and get out, and I smell something burning. I think nothing of it and head inside for snacks. We come home and I reverse into the garage and shut her down and get out. That smell again! Now I know this isnt coincidence. I pop the hood and am surprised and pissed at the same time. Last week we were in the Dominican and I needed an oil change badly before we left, so I took it to Mr. Lube. Well the doorknob who changed my oil decided to leave my oil cover from the engine on the bumper instead of actually locking it back into place. Thank god Ive only driven a few miles before I realized what was going on. Needless to say I will call them Monday. Sorry for the rant, just thought I would share lol.

#1 reason I do my own oil changes is because of careless mistakes like that.

Same here, but I was down to 8% on the DIC the night before out flight left and I needed it to drive to the airport which is 150miles away so it had to be done. Never again that's for sure! Im going first thing Monday morning with pictures as proof.

8% is more than enough for 300 miles of driving. I'd rather run the car on slightly old oil than risk having a quick lube screw up (Easy to do on the SS since they require Synth... most places just tend to default to 55gallon drums of dyno).

So I went to speak to the manager there today. 3 free oil changes, they cleaned my engine bay BY HAND, a free car wash (since my car was dirty) and they are getting a professional cleaner coming to my house to clean the oil spill in my garage floor

I would have to say that's pretty stand up.

But it takes 20 mins to do yourself and fraction of the cost.

You're better off to run it at negative 20% than to risk this kind of thing happening...your motor isn't going to grenade at 0% oil life...dipsticks monkeying with your pride/joy will...

My wife came home one time with the same situation, only to find oil covering everything under the hood from blow back...good thing it was a lease...
