Blowing headlights
Blowing headlights
In august I insatalled some aftermarket bulbs from the local tint shop/performance place and I keep blowing them. Two on the left headlight, 1 on the right...And my question is, is there a system test or somthing I can do to see if its more then just crappy headlights? 20 bones every 3 weeks sucks *****
When you install your headlamp bulbs, do you touch the bulbs. If you do, that is why they are blowing. When installing headlamp bulbs, you need to wear powder free latex gloves. IF you touch the bulbs with your fingers, the oils from your skin get all over it. When the bulbs are running they get very hot and so do the oils from your skin eventually causing them to burst.
I manage a paint and body shop so trust me.

nagh iv installed houndreds of bulbs like these in my cars that I bought back home in WI. It's just iv never had a constant problem like this. Iv had a lot of electrical problems, clutch position sensor, sunroof motor, wiper control switch all blowing and maybe something upfront in my headlights
It could be... but tracking down electrical problems is really hard to do! All I can say is agreeing with everyone else... don't buy cheap-o-bulbs... PERIOD! Although I bought some bulbs from Wal-Mart here, and they have been perfect... although they weren't super cheap.. they were $20.00 a pair!
I bought after market bulbs ($60.00 CAD/pair) from a repitable tuner shop here in Calgary. The first pair I installed and the left bulb was plown right away. Second pair (I got the same ones replaced for free cause the sales guy swore by them) installed great but only lasted a month...left side blew again. I started to think that maybe I had electrical problems on the left side. Third pair (sales guy still swore by them) got them home installed them and both were blown right away. So what do I do...I run out to my local Canadian Tire store pay $79.00 CAD for a pair of 9007 Night Hawks Ultras, installed them and no more blown bulbs. So word of advise, Don't buy those after market **** bulbs and if you do don't cheap out and definatly do not touch the bulbs with greezzzeee pizza fingers. Use powder coated gloves which I believe was formentioned in other posts.
