there is a fuse door on the passenger side of the car in the front seat in the footwell. just look for it. take the door off and on the back will be a guide telling you what fuse is for what.

Does your trunk release still work?

If not, check the fuse under the hood, you should be able to locate it quite easily using the diagram on the underside of the fusebox cover. I believe it's a 20 amp.

To my knowledge, yes.

Check the trunk first. If it doesnt open, then it's definitely the underhood fuse.

i just thought it was a good quesiton to ask. I wouldn't know. But logic tells me that is the only variable between your cobalt and everyone elses. It probably does have something to do with the extra amperage your running to somewhere on the car... but I dont know. Who on this site is our electronics guru. We've got to have one person out there who can help you.

What ever you connected to the cigarette lighter circut is drawing alot of current,The lighter fuse is ment to handle the current from the lighter not both.
And please dont put a bigger fuse in there because you will melt wire together,The fuse is sized to protect the wires .

You will have to connect it up to a better source, and dont use any ignition wires as well.

Since you didnt blow the trunk fuse, this tells me youre either putting a power cord in the LIGHTER outlet, or your trying to put a cigarette lighter element into the POWER outlet of a car that doesnt have a cigarette lighter. You cant do either of these things

The cigarette lighter IS NOT intended to be used as a port for power cords. the power outlets are NOT intended to be used with lighters

if it had a cigarette lighter in it.....thats all it gets.

If its got the little flap that says 12v on it.....its only for cords.

Yeah if they both have flaps then you dont have a cigarette lighter.

If you look into them, they should both look exactly the same. If the one by the cupholders looks different then its actually a cigarette lighter, from the factory the one by the E-brake is always the power outlet(one by cupholders can be either)
