Blown Turbo??

Ok so question. How do I know if the turbo is done or not? I did a pull in 2nd gear on the way home last night and I heard what I thought was a backfire. Lost boost after that. I'm use to the 5psi flutter but I'm not building any boost at all and there is no blow off even in the slightest. It sounds like air is just whistling through it all. I didn't have a flashlight so I couldn't look into the intake side but I put my hand in there and the fins spin fine. It has to be something with the turbo if it's not building any boost at all right? If anyone has a suggestion that would be great. Need to get this figured out so I can decide if I'm going to order a new turbo sooner rather than later.

checked all my pipes and they're solid. Had just installed a new FMIC 2 days ago and I redid all the pipes. Everything is intacked.

Just because they look intact doesn't mean they are. Check codes.... Check for exhaust leaks

They are intact because I checked them all, I have no way to check codes until tomorrow due to my laptop being down and I'm stuck at work. Hopefully it shows me something. It's puzzling me because it sound like air just whistling through and the turbo isn't spinning. If I didn't have to work today I'd be under, over, and in my car figuring this out.

It's also possible that your IC cracked. I had a Hahn IC blow a weld once.

That would blow, especially since it's a brand new intercooler. I wasn't able to take off my bumper last night to check for a cracked intercooler but I'll probably do it tomorrow. Just trying to make a list of things to look for when I get the chance.

gotta build the part for it then I could, I'm hoping it's a massive boost leak somewhere and not my turbo being blown.

So scanned the car and no codes present. Gotta look under the car to see if anything else is jacked up. Still cant find any boost leaks, gonna do a boost leak test tomorrow I hope.

The symptoms you describe do not fit a blown turbo. Just sayin'.

that's a relief. So a massive boost leak? Just trying to figure out where it could be that I wouldn't be building any boost in the slightest and why it just makes a whistle noise.

Yes, that is what everybody is saying. The air noise is all the air leaving/entering the system. Blown turbos usually make a different kind of sound and make smoke too.

i blew off the hose clamp that goes into the intake manifold. i had the same symptoms as you (no boost, could hear the turbo spool, popping noise then no power), and i didn't see that it was off at first. (i just had done my charge pipes the day before) but yeah, pretty sure blown turbo would smoke all over the place and rattle like a ****

I cant really hear the turbo spool, what I hear is a whistling as if air was coming into a small hole or something. BPV def isn't making any noise, will check that out. Checked the intake manifold, its still intacted. Really gotta get under this car to get a better look. Still stuck at work so I'll get off late and have to come in really early tomorrow. So tomorrow after work I'll be able to check it out. Till then I'll just park it and hitch a ride

After I put my ZZP intercooler on it ran fine. No more CELs and everything was legit. I got happy and did a pull and now I'm not happy because I have no more boost. Hope it's a simple fix.

Just get a s20g now haha jk man I hope it's not your turbo. From everything your saying tho it sounds like a boost leak for sure.

By any chance did you use hairspray to get the coupler really stuck onto the charge pipes?
