Brakes, Help

So the other day I was driving around and noticed that my wheels were making this very light squealing noise, and whenever i hit the brakes it would go away

So today I wake up, and whenever I hit my brakes now I get this nasty nasty grinding noise.

I stopped to get gas and check the rotors for scarring and they are perfectly smooth.

Any ideas as to what's going on?

UPDATE
Well I found the culprit

I drove about 5 more miles and I stopped in a parking lot

The scraping noise was getting worse, so I rechecked the rotors. This time I checked the insides too.

Driver side is flawless inside and out. Went over to the passenger side and the outside was flawless. Stuck my hand on the inside and it felt like a jagged rock

Pulled my hand out and it's covered in brake dust and ****.

UPDATE

I'm gonna be replacing the rotors and pads soon. I just hope the caliper doesn't get damaged

I stuck my digicam in behind the wheel so I could snap some pics of the inside rotor

Here they are:

Closeup (Macromode):

The opposite side of the rotor all nice n pretty:

My car as she sits:

My bottle hidden away in the back seat:

Same thing used to happen to my bike. I just replaced rotors and pads. I dont know what kind of money you got in your brakes though. Sounds like dirt or something. If it stays nasty like that I garauntee you will get groves in your rotors..

how many miles do you have on the car? It sounds like it is time to change the brakes.

Pads are probably done! There is a warning flap of metal that starts squeaking when the pads wear to low. That could be what you are hearing!

Well, the thing is, I got my inspection done in July and the garage asked if I had new brakes, they said they were flawless

I have 40,000 on my car as well. I was looking at my brakes the other day because I noticed they were starting to get noisey when braking and sure enough, they are just about at the point where they need to be changed. I will probably get the drilled/slotted rotors at the same time since my rotors have some pretty good grooves in them.

jeff..if u get new brakes get duralast ones from autozone...i had to replace mine at 30k cuz they were so badly grooved and warped...the duralasts were relatively inexpensive ($250 for 4 rotors and pads) and theyve stoop up extremely well over the last 12k miles

If you still have the factory pads on the car at 40K, they are worn out. Get new ones. If you go Duralasts, get the gold ones. If your rotors look fine, you can just replace pads. Are you going to do the job yourself? Its quite easy with basic tools.

I'm guessing that the front pads are worn out. Get new ones on before the rotors start to get gouged.

BTW, you guys are easy on your brakes. My fronts were toast by 25K miles. GMPP rotors and Hawk pads fixed that, now at 52K the front pads are worn out again. At least this time I can re-use these expensive ass rotors.

I have a 2.2 so I only need to have the front pads/rotors replaced, anyone know what it's gonna cost?

I am VERY easy on my brakes, I would be willing to bet the pad fell out or something

Figure about $40 for pads, another $80 for rotors, (just a guess, and not the cheapest ****), add about 60-80 for cutting the new rotors and install, under $200 should cover it. If you are getting new rotors and they are decent quality, you could do the whole job yourself, its not hard. If you re-use old rotors or buy cheap ones, they should see a brake lathe before installation, which means they gotta go to a shop. Actually, try Sears Auto Center, I used to work there and the guys at my place at least did good work. I still do all my own brake work though

Pads are gone, it is making noise because the pads have a metal tab that is on the rotor, it "grinds" so you know they need to be replaced.

EBC was a good choice for me

Yeah I am easy on my brakes as well - hence the 40,000 and still havent' changed them yet. I also went 35,000 miles on the stock Pirellis so that tells you how the car is treated.

It's just that one pad though, all the others are fine

The inside of that rotor is GONE though.

At this point i just hope it's not ruining my caliper as well

You will need front pads and rotors. Its a good time to upgrade if you are ever planning to. You should check the caliper also for damage/wearing on that side.

I don't know how the pad would fall out!?!?!

Theres no way it wore through, i took my car in for inspection not 8 months ago and they seriously asked me if I had brand new brakes on it.

All the other rotors are flawless and pretty, its just the inside of the passenger side rotor thats completely wasted

At least the rotors aren't like mine... Honest to god this isn't an exageration. I can change lanes, by taping my brakes. Only to the left though .

The stock rotors are worthless! I'm at 22k miles. The Pads still have like 1/2 to 1/3 inch left on them. The driver side is so warped it's rubbing all the time now.

Duralasts were like $36.99 a piece and pads can be found cheap for like $17 a set, but you'll want better pads. I was there at autozone like three times today trying to get everything done since it was 60 degrees out. Painted the the rear drums, let it sit for 2 hours. Went to do the fronts and took the rotor off and layed it on the ground and was like, holy ****!

So I'm looking at brakes.

For rotors, I can either get:
-EBC
-Baer
-Powerslot

And for Pads, I can get:
-EBC Greenstuff
-EBC Redstuff
-Hawk Performance Ceramic
-Hawk Performance HPS

Comments/Suggestions?

I hope you guys at TurboTech are good over in the shipping dept cause I'm gonna need this **** quick

I'm damn near in tears everytime I hit my brakes

I would say Powetslot (Slotted) and then the Hawk HPSs. I don't care for ceramics, but that's just me. I have heard good things about the greenstuff pads though.. I would base that decision off price if it were me because I haven't had much to compare.

I have been running EBC rotors and Hawk ceramic pads. They are both great! I have about 10k on them and they have hardly worn.
