Brakes......WTF
well i dont know if this has been posted before but i just noticed this the other day......my passenger front rotor has a pretty little gutter a little further in than center.....i only have 8000 miles on the ****** and i have a gutter in my rotor... ....is this normal in the balts....it wasnt in my past 2 cars.....any ideas?...and any idea if the dealer will do my brakes for free because it is so soon

noticed some grooves on the front rotors here as well with 5000 miles. the bumper to bumper should cover rotors i would imagine. ive never seen a grooved rotor with the original pads unless they had rivets showing. maybe they are lead rotors <<< rofl.

It's iffy if they'll fix it, most of the time rotors are considered a wear and tear item, but if you've only had the car for 12 months or less you could probably get them to fix it if you yell loud enough.

Rotors on a base LS should last *at least* 75k miles, possible longer if you don't brake hard. I'm not sure about the SS/SC since they're different, but regular rotors should last a damn long time. On my last car, I drove over 80k miles while I owned it. Went through 4 sets of pads, 1 set of front rotors, and the rear drums and pads never needed to be replaced, only cleaned. The front rotors were replaced at about 110k on the odo.
In other words...the dearship better replace them for free if they're wearing abnormally.

they do it for free as long as it's under warranty. this is a known problem. they will have my car the whole day tomorrow to figure out why it's coming back

I'm getting mine looked at tomorrow. The fronts are pretty bad, but the backs are ok. If they don't do anyhting about it, I'm gonna contact Uneek for a set of their cross drilled & slotted rotors and a set of pads. They have worked well for ExHondaMan.
The pads on the SS S/C are too hard for the rotors. All the other SS S/C's I've seen in AZ are grooved by 4,000-5,000 miles.

Grooving is 100% normal guys (and gal)...as long as the brakes aren't pulsing; no harm no foul. Also, GM will only replace them under warranty if the grooves are in excess of 1.5 mm deep.

Dealer should replace em' if not then bitch at em' and they should at least machine the rotors down smooth. Pads are the culprit but grooving is inevitable....just deal with it. If you end up getting performance pads, they wil do the same if not more than oem pads. I have 1500km on my new slotted rotors and ther are no grooves but I can already tell where the grooves will appear. Damn Hawk HPS pads! hhahah jk jk..they are good pads...

well I dropped it off at the dealership to have the brakes fixed for the SECOND time and I get a call saying "It's normal wear and we can't duplicate the steering wheel shake or brake pulsation" and I say "well if it's normal wear then how come you fixed it the first time it occurred?" Of course I got dead air over the phone so I called GM directly and what does Mr. Bruce Mitchell say? Try taking it to another dealership. Now I honestly know why GM is going down the sh*t pipe..... not for making sh*tty cars but for sh*tty customer service. If I wasn't such a GM nutswinger I'd switch to another company solely for the fact that GM customer service and most of their dealers blow b*lls. That is all
