Broke my sunroof...
I was driving home doing about 60 when I decided it was a better day for AC than a sunroof. So I started to close it and I heard a loud "pop". At first I thought it closed fine, but apperently the passanger side doesnt go down all the way. It is sticking up about a half inch. I really can see anything wrong with it either. So I am going to have to take off the glass. Anyone have this issue before?

Yeah. I believe something like a rock or something got in there. I just cant see where it came off. I did rain last night. Doesnt look like any water got in there.

Yes I am out of warrenty. And yes, the rack exploaded. Im reading through my extended warrenty BS to figure out if it covers it. If not Im going to put it together with some JB Weld.
Pics to come.

You have to replace the sunroof frame ($200 from dealership). What happened is that a plastic arm along the frame broke. its not that hard to fix, did it in my garage. (Keep the motor from your first one.) any other questions hit me up.

Well, I checked the extended warrenty I bought. I *think* the plan will cover it with $100 deductable. Not 100% sure. So monday I'll go talk to stealer-ship and see what I can do. (im only about 4,000 miles out of the factory warrenty.) If not I'll price the part or go the JB weld path.

there is a thing called the "goodwill" warranty. the service rep has to call GM and basically say "come on guys he is just over his kms and he is a really good guy can you warranty this for him?" usually they will put things through.

this has happened to me twice, i've had my car since december it had less then 5k on when it was finally fixed(no problems with my roof since knock on wood), my dealer replaced my entire glass panel and tracks plus the motor at no charge under warranty. same thing, closing the sunroof, loud popping noise, and my driver's side wouldn't close. if you vent your roof you can see where on the arms of the actuator it has a lock that is supposed to slide towards the front of the glass and pull the glass down til it locks, with my roof the arm wouldnt slide forward and it would just press down on the locking mechanism til the motor popped the glass back up at the end of its run. i used a flat head to slide the arm and pushed the roof shut, it didnt leak ever but it never stayed shut on its own, with just my finger tips i could push the driver's side back open to the vented position. anyways, it was fixed under warranty with no cost to me. and i had a problem with my switch too. while either opening or closing the roof the bezel would just fall off, this had happened 7 times from december until june when i took it to a different dealer and had it fixed the right way. it was the retainer and bezel, everyime i was told it was replaced with new parts and fixed and it was all cost free under warrany. the only thing that sucked was that it always happened and then i had a sunroof switch hanging from my headliner. i was told when i got it fixed in june at a different dealer, my friend larry is a service foreman at superior chevy in lawrenceville nj, the retainer that was "replaced" was probably never actually replaced. its a simple four arm design that holds the switch centered and the plastic bezel around that. well the one he removed, one arm was completely broken off and two others were bent so much that they had no rigidity to them. anyways, it should have all been covered under warranty, and i was the second cobalt they had the same problem with.
and on that note, i looked into lemon law with it, and i had a case. however, General motors doesnt feel a broken sunroof qualifies for lemon law because it doesnt affect performance, safety, or value. i agree with the performance/safety part, but i didnt look for a car with a sunroof and pay for the sunroof to have it break all the time. had to settle with them. not a bad deal, but i didnt buy a new car for it to fall apart and im sure you didnt either, thats what my old mustang was for

There is a fix for that, bring it into the dealer. Same thing happened to me this spring I had a big puddle down near my E Brake.

Crap crap....
Installed, but the sunroof doesnt open. It only lifts up. I hope I didnt break the switch. Im going to try and swap out motors next. Will have to wait until tomorrow. It's starting to rain.

mine used to pop when it closed, but it closed all the way and didnt leak, i took it to the dealer and the had to replace a track or something, so my advice is take that bitch to the dealer and let them fix it.
should be under warranty unless your warranty is up...
