Broken Shift Linkage?

Today on my way to work I did a NLS into 3rd gear and VaROOM... I thought I'd missed the shift. then I realized my shifter was completely limp. Not connected to anything or so it felt.

I work nights so by the time I got it to the dealer they were closed. I dropped the key in the night-box so I won't know for sure until tomorrow.

It had always felt a little 'stiff' going into 3rd gear. I've had the chance to drive another Cobalt SS and it didn't feel anywhere near as stiff as my shifting.

Has anyone else had this issue?
Is there 'beefier' aftermarket linkage that I can use?

could be a couple things. search for ralliartist ans his linkage post. also your cables could have poped off. to check that pull the plastic trim out from around the shifter. hope this helps.

Just got it back today. 1st they ordered a new cable...then they realized it didn't have the ball at the end. SO, they ordered a new 'ball'. They said that as a result of this snafu (cable not having ball on it) that their parts book is going to be updated. I was w/out my Cobalt for 13 days....

The "rental" they gave me was a standard Cobalt. Nice basic car but talk about GUTLESS compared to our SS's.

Yeah... I test drove the tc... way better than my car. I hated tellin those guys at the dealer I was just gunna stick with my sorry 2.2. Quick question though, how'd you make it to the dealer? Tow truck or driving (if that was possible). Just wondering cuz my 3rd gear blew on me as well as my clutch and I drove it for about 3 months... and I've had bent forks before too and drove it for 4 months.
