back on topic.
most of the time, they break when people install the lug nuts with an impact wrench. to say that an entire car is a piece of **** because of it is crazy.

prior to this when was the last time you had the wheels off the car and who had them off? if it ws the stealership i would take it to them and tell them and make them fix it because they obviously cross threaded the lug nut.

take it back to them and bitch! tell them what happened and they SHOULD own up to it and replace it for free. when i worked for sears auto center we used to replace them for free if we were the last ones to touch them.

i would but it has been awhile and it wouldnt sound very credible....it has been 5 months easily....and btw this isnt the first problem with my car....it has also had the rotors replaced twice from warping within 3000 miles of changing, the air conditioner stopped working, the front bumper doesnt line up with the fenders and headlights, and chevrolet forgot to put the oil cap back on after an oil change....

well your rotors probably has something to do with your lugnut issue....
the fender issue is a TSB that came out a long while ago that chev can/will fix for ya....
and the oilcap?
well thats definately worth walking up to the oilchange monkey and bitchslapping him with a baby powdered backhand.
have you considered a different dealership? lol

Ive seen a bunch of cobaltswith this problem, including mine. And the gap under my headlights could probably suck up a small bird.

Yep , I would definately be in there .....with the broken stud and the lug attached to the portion that broke off . If the lug was spun on with a impact , you'd never know if it lightly cross threaded as it would just muscle it right on . Once you try to force a lug off like on any stock type wheel stud , it breaks easily .

I've had this cross threading problem with so many service shops I don't allow them to touch mire wheels any longer. I will take them off and take the wheels to a shop to have the tires installed, repaired or balanced. I've even had someone bend one of my rear control arms with a lift.
I remove and reinstall all of my own wheels and torque the lugs with a torque wrench.....especially needed on the 18" Katanas on my GA. They are 5x114.3 on a lug pattern of 5x115.

Damn....I've taken my wheels off to put on the aftermarket wheels. Took them off again to change the rear springs. Took them off to change the centercaps. Haven't broken a stud....I use a torque wrench each time to install -- start with 60 ft lbs then 80 ft lbs and finally 100 ft lbs. What are you using????
