Problems/Service/Maintenance Do you have problems with your new 2.0, 2.2, or 2.4L? What kind of service did you have done?

Angry Burning hot trunk!

Um so yeah I had this problem before where the metal in my trunk right above the rear muffler gets hot in the interior. Anybody else have this problem?

After your car has been on for about 20 min go to your trunk and lift up the carpet and feel around on the left side near the subwoofer. (if equipped) Is it hot to the touch?

Never checked, but I would imagine that would happen to any metal near any exhaust components. Just curious, what made you check that anyway?

I heard a rattle then I noticed that. Very VERY hot.

you know what merc.. i think you are right... my left rear side gets hott.. i felt around when i was installing my dynamat.. i got home from work... which is a 30min drive, saw my dynamat from the ups guy... and started to pull up the material right when i got home from work.. and that ****** was hott... i thought it was just from the hot weather.

Could this escelate (sp?) into a larger problem, like fire?

I will get my tech guru to look at it tommorrow and find out exactly if it is a problem. Im worried about fire and damage it could inflict to my sub.

I think it is a saftey issue as far as burning yourself.

jimmy go under the car and see if 1) piping is touching something 2) if the black coating is burned off exhuast may not be able to handle the exhaust temps (from supercharger)

A Heat shield would be easy to make and install.

Thats not the point. If the car is like that stock it might be an issue.

If it's always like that and the same for all cobalts why wouldn't GM put a heat sheild there.

OMG my engine gets hot to the touch too, maybe I should be scared cause my hood gets hot when my engine is hot....

Man look, Hot to the touch can be like 120-130 degree's. We both know that aint startin no fire.

You where at the dyno that day with the lights dimmed down when my exaust turned bright red? IM sure thats going to heat up anything near it. I doubt it to be an issue and doubt any fire to come from it. If its an annoyance then get a heat shield like the Mazda guy said, if you wanna waste your time trying to get it addressed be my guest.

Hopefully you're not storing anything under your hood though - the trunk is a different story. I haven't checked this on my car so I have no clue how big of a deal it is, but...you're much more apt to have something flammable in your trunk. Most aerosole (sp?) cans say to keep them under 120.

Uh, Jeremy... It is a different story when there is carpet over this hot spot. Just as the other member said, you don't keep things in your engine bay. I just thought it was crazy that there is a part of my car inside the trunk that gets as hot as my muffler. I wasn't talking about my trunk lid...

Can confirm its an issue! 2005 cobalt ls 2.2L
