Buying a SS/SC, how to check supercharger?

Found a 58k mile SS/SC. I have my mechanic to look at it but hes unfamiliar with superchargers. Whats a way to check them for wear?

Any other questions/concerns?

I would change the supercharger oil just to be safe:GM ACDelco - GM Supercharger Oil #GM-12345982

make sure it holds boost, inspect the supercharger for obvious physical wear including: rotars, pully, belt, bearings, etc.

how expensive is it to get a new one if it is bad? He said he brought it to a mechanic for checkups and stuff and never really paid attention to what they did. He seems kind of unknowledgeable when it comes to the engine compartment. But he seems pretty meticulous about bringing it in for checkups every 3k miles and even randomly within that time for his mechanic just to say its fine.

Eaton - New Eaton M62 LSJ Supercharger #ETN-12597356
If there are no problems with the one on your car i wouldnt change it, just oil it. but here is one from zzp anyway, if you shop around there might be a cheaper one.

is it stock or did he change for a smaller pully for more boost?

Unfortunately hes the second owner after buying it from a dealer. The mechanic he brought it too said the only aftermarket part in the engine bay was an air intake. But idk how familiar his mechanic is with SCs just as mine is almost clueless on them as well.

P.s my mechanic is my dad.

Since the prevoius owner was on top of maintence i wouldnt be to worried about it, if the car feels fine id say its proabably in good shape, but if your worried about it or something feels off than like i said just change the oil, make sure it holds boost, inspect the supercharger for wear

Awesome thanks for the help. Any other questions I should ask him before I pursue this further? First time buying a Chevy and first time buying a supercharger. Big upgrade from my 97 civic haha.

find out if there are any other "upgrades" to the car to make sure nothing was installed improperly. other than that everythig else should just be the routine for buying a used car like accidents, strange noises and things of that nature. and welcome to the cobalt world they are great cars definatly an upgrade from a civic hahaha.
did you testdrive it?

Honestly the stock supercharger is fairly close to indestructible. They will last almost forever so as long as there are no obvious signs of wear/damage it will be ok.

Superchargers going bad is not a common issue. So I wouldn't worry about it. Only thing wrong with them is the coupler that makes a "marble in cans" sound but its not something serious.
Just make sure u don't hear knocking noises on start up or at all.
