A/C Engaging and Disengaging

Friend's IRL has this problem and i was wondering if anyone has seen this before. The A/C will come on and blow cold for like 5 seconds then disengage then reengage 5 seconds later. The car will surge everytime this happens. Anyone have any experience? I told a friend to just junk the ******* car already. He's put so much money into it recently and its just another problem. Thanks

Sounds like a pressurre switch problem but not sure.Probably his high pressure switch is the one that is faulty.

The charge is low in the a/c system. Get it recharged

Would one of those cans of coolant you can buy at autozone work?

R-134a.. You will need the kit with the hose and adapters if you don't already have them. It is best to put a set of gauges on it to see how low it is. I think the kits come with the gauges now. not real sure, it has been a few years since i have messed with a broken a/c car...

Sounds like it is contaminated, either with moisture or air, the pressures is shooting up as soon as it kicks on, so the clutch is cycled off. I'd have it evacuated and have a vacuum pulled on the system. Then have a charge. Never use the diy kits, the true way to fix it porperly is to remove all the refrigerant and add to spec.

You can also Overcharge and it will have the same effect. My friend just recharged his ac in his G6 and it was running for a sec and then the ac would shut off, so he let some back out and fixed the problem.

Depends on if it is still under warranty. If your buddy was closer to Louisville, I would say swing by and I could probably take care of it for you. For the price, he could get the DIY kit with the gauges and see if it is low or overcharged, then adjust from there. If it is low, there is a slow leak somewhere in the system, either an o-ring or in the compressor.
