You can avoid the cel found when installing any intake simply by having your maf table and (to a degree) your ve table tuned with hp tuners.

I believe what is happening when a cai is installed is that the placement of the maf sensor is different, and it pulls more air differently from the stock air box, therefore the measurements it makes when fueling are different due to the difference in airflow. Our cars read heavily off the maf table, so at different rpms and map levels, you are going to be running richer/leaner, which could explain the misfires, plug fouling, etc.

Just a thought/opinion, so take it with a grain of salt.
but where i'm coming from is not every cobalt has this problem after an injen install..soo why could my car be running rich/lean,burning plugs, gas in the oil etc??? i was told all i need is a tune but can i be certain..i dont have cel, i just have the effects. i cleaned the maf sensor, i tightend the bolts, i blew the inside of the sensor, i checked the connection, even if i had the money to attempt to tune it, i dont kno anyone around here to do it for me.(and its also a big risk to take..after a tune from a stranger it could be by by motor) i believe its from the increased air also but now i'm getting gas in the oil and i really really dont like that..i checked my autolites the other day and they were fine..nothing worng with them but it was still misfiring. which is why i just wanna take it to the dealer but when it comes back i'm scared to put the intake on because i dont want this problem back..

And as for tuning, there is no tuning available for the 2.2's on hptuners unfortunately. I'm sorry i did not read earlier that you were a 2.2. There are some other options coming out for them, however they are only really worth it if you are doing a lot of mods.

So the tune may not be your issue at all, check your maf sensor and maybe clean the throttlebody with some tb cleaner, and we'll go from there.
Now you have two people asking you questions. lol.

The performance mods i have not are:
cai
OBX Racing Header
HighFlow Cat
Magnaflow exhaust, cutom bent pipe.
I was looking into the other options, i think theres more i can get out of those mods.

ok,I was going to try to clean my tb, this would be my third winter, second summer, and I have 85000km, so it's sounds like a good idea. i'll try both today. Thanks alot.

well i dont THINK that they'll kno because theres gas in my oil and it should be black anyway but if they look at my oil life gauge and ask why its at 94% i'm going to be stuck..you keep your warranty as long as a mechanic does your oil correct?? lets say my autoshop teacher thats an ASE master mechanic.

I heard smoke will come out because you are burning oil.

have you been to the dealer yet? whats the word?

off topic but a base cavi at my work try'd to take me in the rain tonight. I spun all of first and second till 6krpm then it gripped, i caught third and took him. He thinks he beat me. what a moron. He's bone stock. I have a actual "header" and cat back. I beat stock 2.4's. I can't believe he thinks that. Can;t wait for it to be dry so i can pull two cars in first gear. lol .

what does your misfire feel like?

i think i needed spark plugs, and today i went to pick up the wife and I drove threw first and second, then clutched in to take a left turn, went to catch second and it felt really messed. Then after i caught it i try'd to accelerate and it chugged really bad like it was going to stall, and the rpm were going crazy. So i pulled right into a parking lot. I turned it off, then restarted it. If i try'd to rev it got to 3k and then was like chug chug chug and it would start to drop and feel like there was no power. I waited till my coolant was 60C, then try'd again same thing but then it kicked in. Then i could rev and rev and it was fine. So i drove away. took it on the highway and it seemed to drive ok.

wtf was that about, ima bring it to my wifes uncle who owns a shop. He's gunna scan my **** and give me new plugs. what do you guys think i should use for a 2.2? i heard bosh are pieces of ****.

when i'm driving regularly at about 2500 you'll feel a little budge. like the rpms just stopped for a half second and jumped back to normal..its not dramatic but you can feel it if your looking for it..other then that you cant tell the misfire.

How about this you said you were turning.
Condition/Concern:
On rare occasions, an intermittent engine misfire may be experienced on cylinder 1 during/following a left turn or on cylinder 4 during/following a right turn. The misfire may / will typically last up to 10 seconds. A SES light and DTCs P0300, P0301, and/or P0304 may also be present if the misfire lasts long enough.

what CAI are you running and what air filter do you have .. some filters are treated with "oils" and they damage your MAF sensor... that could be it..k&N makes a good dry filter

Tuning, thats a whole 'nother ball game. To license your car on an hptuner interface costs $50 bucks per credit, and it takes two credits to license one car, then you're able to make as many changes as many times as you want. You just want to make sure the person that tunes you really knows what they are doing. So it kinda becomes a hard sell. You're car will run the best when its properly tuned, but most guys charge for it, so it would wind up costing ya unless you can find someone like me.
hey neo01 i was wondering when it comes to tuning when and how do you go about tuning im a noob and i want to eventualy get the most out of my car right now its all stock i just bought it a week ago but can you do any tuning to a stalk car to get any gains and if not what can i do to get the best bang out of my cobalt its a 2.4 and i dont know where to start but i am hearing a lot about tuning just not what exactly you can do with tuning im in kelowna B.C. and there isnt to many people who know about this **** and if i can tune can you recamend somwere i can get this done ill even come to calgary
