Angry Can't get the Key out

I have a slight problem. I drive a 2.4 and its auto. My problem is that every time I go some were and put it in park I go to turn off the car and It wont let me take the key out. I have to push up on the shifter hard and then I can some times get the key out anyone know what the problem could be? I really don't want to take it to a dealer because I have alot of extra stuff Iv done to the car.

Dam. Do you know what they do? I have a lot of wires under my center console. I just don't want them to brake anything.

its a sensor on the right side of the shift assembly, its a cheap design and when the bracket breaks it will not let the bar return to its original position. when it doesnt return it shows that the vehicle is not in park and will not release the key

and what we would do is, remove the top cover. pull the 4 13mm bolts holding it down, releast the shift cable and walla! its out

yep, new shifter assembly....bad BTSI

there's a spot under the steering column that you can jam a small screwdriver into to release the key...I believe it's a white plastic piece...you'll have to remove the cover first
