if you dont wanna run it out of gas un hook the battery and itll shut off.As for taking the key out, theres a removable cap on the bottom of the steering column, take that off and there a button you can push while twisting back on the key,it should release the ignition

pull the fuel pump fuse. its safer than trying to disconnect the battery

be safe, dont get shocked.

the alternator will keep it running.

Just stall it ?

That will work too,If you pull the fuel pump fuse,it'll pop a code for the fuel pump circuit, that's normal.

No it wont. There is too much electrical demand for just the alternator to run the whole car

Either way your gonna have to unhook the battery if the key doesn't turn off otherwise you'll kill the battery.

Wouldn't it have to be able to? Otherwise you would drain the battery when you drive it? Just thought that made sense.

really?I never tried in my balt but the caddy and the s-10 had too much demand for just the alternator to run it infact my s-10 the ECU solely ran off the battery.Had the alternator tested multiple times in both cars and was 100%.just figured the balt was like that too.

Put the Ebrake on and stall it with the clutch then disconnect the battery

common sense = stall the ****. put it into 5th gear and simply let off the clutch. or pull the ebrake and put it in first. problem solved, for now.

Easiest way is to remove the three 7mm screws from the lower cover of the steering column and unplug the green connector going to the ignition switch.

That kills the car and all electrical power.

Unhooking the battery while the car is running is a horrible idea. You are correct it will inturn kill the car after a few moments, but that's like putting a fat man on a treadmill running full blast.

Also while the car is running the alternator will be supplying current through the wire harness, risk of damaging the alternator or other parts of the vehicle with a live wire... ever grounded out a power wire before? Ever Arc welded and not scratched your rod before starting... If your wire gets grounded out and the alternator puts out enough current to keep the car running for a couple minutes... kiss your alternator good.

Put it in 5th, let the clutch out and kill it. Then pop the panel off and press the emergency release on the ignition switch and take the key out.

ya there is a bulletin about this... not a recall but dealership should install the newer style tumbler... im taking mine to the dealership as soon as it's out of storage and telling them the ignition sticks sometimes so they'll replace it now before the same thing happens to me..

i agree don't disconnect the battery... just stall it or use the button under the cover on the steering column.
