Codes P0335 and P0336

anyone had these?? i paid to have the crank position sensor replaced but now im thinking i got screwed by the dealer and they never even did it..the problem gets better and worse when you mess around with the wiring harness leading to the CPS as well...wondering if anyone can shed some light on the issue seeing as they "cant find the problem" at the dealer

i gave them the part cuz i had bought one to do myself but the car happened to be in for an oil change and i figured hey just have them put the new one in...left the car there for a day...

im thinking it might be a wiring issue...the main engine wire harness runs right alongside the oil filter area and i pulled a little of that black wire loom **** off and the wires are drenched in oil....pretty bad design on GM's part if u ask me....so now im prob gonna pull all the looms off in the area and clean off the wires and see what i can find...

i cant even take it to anyone to have it fixed cuz im **** broke from spending $2500 to fix the timing chain and the associated damage that caused :-/

bumpin bumpin

i had both of the codes and i replaced the sensor and ****... it wound up being the PCM went bad... both of the sensors were fine.... So you may want to check your PCM... also what issues are you having?

hesitating and sputtering over bumps, low engine power, much louder exhaust, difficulty managing the clutch so it stalls out a lot, no tach, guzzling gas and the CEL

your sensor is more than likely fine... its a different issue... you prob have a wiring issue or a bent pin or something along that route... I have had the same issues and thats the difference with two different sensors, replaced the PCM and i have been fine.

also, im waiting for SLOBALT to chime in to see if he can shed more light on the topic of his fix

i just took the whole harness out, and checked every wire...everything appeared fine and had continuity. (i did tho had the car running, then wiggled the wiring at the harness and I could make the car start to die or die completely)
so i ran a both new wires from the sensor to the PCM and starting it up, running amazing.
giggled a little and i got a p0122 (check the tb connection, plugged it back in after unplugging it. restarted it pulled it out the garage, fine. turned it off, did some things, turned it back on and it stalled on me.

codes that appeared
P0122
p0335
p0336.

now i cant get the car started. Im so confused.

took the car back from the shop...guy said he "couldnt find the sensor" on the car...pretty much lost confidence in him right there...got a new crank sensor and wire harness...gonna install those and see what happens...

2 questions...

when i took the old crank sensor out it was coated in oil...is that normal and/or ok??

will the check engine light go off on its own if the problem is resolved or do i have to reset it myself??

it will be covered in oil as it is exposed in the crankcase, the MIL will need to be reset... I just replaced my whole engine harness today and am pretty certain it is fixed!!!

the code is only half (if that) of gettign to the bottom of the issue;

if your car is still under warranty (I'm guessing not if you're buying parts) you should be able to get the dealer to diagnose the problem @ no charge;

I would be inclined to think that the issue isn't with the CPS itself, because they are a simple maget design;
if it works, it works - if it doesn't work the car will not start.

a wiring issue makes more sense.

ok, going off memory I believe you stated you removed some of hte loom cover, and got oil on the wires, and were wondering if that was a problem;
it shouldn't be.
the loom is there for two reasons;
1) to keep wires together & (theoretically) out of the way of anything
2) to keep the wires contaminant free, so that should a repair need to be done, the technician doesn't have to spend time cleaning the wires.

as stated earlier, the CPS is exposed to the crank case - it is normal to have oil on it.

if you do not have confidence in your abilities, and changing the CPS doesn't fix it, you should consider dropping hte car off at your preferred shop to get it diagnosed properly;

FYI: the GM service manual will have a whole check list to diagnose a given problem when any code comes up...

I hope this helps clear this up & is of some help ~ good luck!

... start your car, wiggle wires and see what area of the harness makes the car start to die or shut off completely.

im pretty much stuck doing this myself as ive had both a GM service dept and a local shop both try and resolve this issue to no avail...im just going to start replacing parts/wiring from the CPS to the PCM and see what happens...im gonna see if i can get my hands on a service manual and see if theres anything there i havent thought of yet thanks
