Cruise Control
Cruise Control
I had an issue tonight with my cruise control not engaging on my 05 SS/SC. I was driving at about 70mph down the freeway and I turned on the power button and hit SET but the CRUISE ENGAGED message just briefly flashed on the DIC and no engagement. After pushing the SET button many times, I stopped even getting the brief engaged message and nothing would happen. Any thoughts or past experiences?
Seems alot of people had problems with the Clutch switch and or break switch, are your tail lights staying on(brake switch) I am not sure how to check the clutch switch other than getting down there and inspecting it visually(make sure the clutch pedal arm is making contact with the switch) and also listening for the click.
Real common problem with the balts. On some or all the balts, there's a felt pad that contacts the switch instead of metal. When that pad is indented from average use, the switch is out of alignment and stays on sometimes when you dont know it. It could be coming from your brake light switch or from your clutch cruise release switch.
There's 2 bulletins for this. Ones a TSB(technical service bulletin) and the other is a PI (preliminary information)

This is a very common occurance on all Cobalts with cruise... whether manual or automatic... and it is typically caused by nothing that the driver did. The cruise module will store a code every time this happens.
Take it to the dealer... they will reflash the cruise computer... and it might fix the problem. It happened 3 times in the year I had my 2.4... hasn't happened yet on my SS/SC. Just luck of the draw.
