Cruise Control

Well, the Balt has an appointment with the Tech. I drove it to work last night instead of my Blazer. On the way into work the cruise control worked fine. This morning on the way home not at all. I hit the engage button and the DIC would flash "Cruise Engaged" for like a split second then disappear and it would not engage. Don't know what's up with it. Everything else is working fine though... any idea's that could save me a trip to the dealer?

Try putting your foot behind the brake pedal and pulling up. sometimes the weight of the pedal pushes down enough to trigger the switch that would shut off the C.C

This is what happend to mine.

Its a code that gets thrown by the clutch switch if you don't get off of the clutch all the way. Unplugging the battery will work or if you have a code scanner you can use that to clear the code.

I had the same problem once. Took it in to the dealer and it turned out that I needed a new switch so they fixed it under warrenty.

2nd time mine has gone out back to dealer today

Evidently it is a common problem and there is a alert to the dealers on it.

Awesome guys, unhooking the battery worked like a charm. As always I appreciate it. One more quick question, my Ingall's is making like a squeaking noise when I hit the gas, when its cold outside (below 40) it doesn't stop until it warms up outside. Any quick fixes for this?

cruise control will not work if there are any pcm codes stored, if you unplug it maybe it will delete a code (if there)

my balt has had the same problem more than once. I don't care how much you push on the clutch by now gm should have an updated reprogram or something to take care of the problem. Mine keeps setting now that ohio has been getting snow and clutch operation is needed a little more.

Tom, really?
Mine quit first time, they replace the clutch switch. Course it failed again. I disconnected the batt, and it went away. (I doubt the clutch switch was ever the problem)
Now it's back. 3rd time. Or is it the 4th time?
I shouldn't have to own a new car that I have to disconnect the batt every time the cruise control dies.
Back to the dealer....then they can also fix the drivers door that won't latch and the busted shift knob......
Gads.

Ron

a couple months ago i had my cruise take a dive on me. when i scanned it i had a vss high signal code and IP buss comunication code (vss code likley caused by the other). took it to gm, they found nothing wrong and cleared it, never had the issue again.

are you sure its the ignalls? i have been having some squeaking rattling for a long time and its the exhaust. i discovered yesterday that where the downpipe connects to the manifold there is some flex piece. if you grab the exhaust you can move it back and forth (front to back) a good 6" or so creating some irritating noises.
hopefully it is just the ignalls and you can tighten the nuts, i had one come loose or just give it a shot of lube.

on this cruise control issue, my button on the left side is very rattly. if you push it in, the light comes on. but if you push the set button nothing happens. when it first started acting up it would flash engaged but not any more. i also notice if i bump the steering wheel the button rattles around in there. i ordered a new button/switch. there seems to be a lot of "little" things quirky with this car...
