It happened to me at the beginning of a 5 hr drive I know how you feel.

Some people have experienced a stuck brake light(tail lights) which causes the cruise control to disengage. I'd take it into the dealer if the problem dose not go away in a day or so.

Try starting your car and walking around to the back to check if your brake/tail lights are on.

Brake lamp siwtch. I recently dealt with a '06 Cobalt that'd run its battery down because the brake lamp switch was stuck on.

Upon removing the switch I found that its a similar design to the switch in the Colorado (which I've replaced about 15 of for brake lamps inop). I'm sure there will be an updated part very soon and possibly a recall depending on how many vehicles are affected.

[Retard] When I first got my Cobalt, I kept on hitting the wrong button on the cruise control switch...I finally figure out why it wasn't working when I went to look (for the first time) which one was reset and which one engaged it [/Retard]

Check and I bet your brake lights are lite up too, even though your not on the brakes... It's happen to me before. All I did was cycle the ignition and it went away.

well I am pretty sure its not my brake light switch, I haven't seen my break lights on when they shouldnt be. I hit the brakes few times when i was parked beside a window and they seem to be turning off when they should. Today I was driving and the cruise was working and all of a sudden it shut off, and i could not turn it back on. I know for a fact i did not touch the breaks. It seems to work at first when but after driving the car for 10-20 min it doesnt work anymore. I am taking it for service on thursday. get them to look at my cruise and my rough idol.

A message from John Madden:

"pressing the right buttons makes the things you want to work, work."

Thank you!

At times mine wont engage but I remembered from another car I had that if I put my toe under the brake pedal and lift up it will engage. Try that.

This is happening to mine as well. It already went in for service. When I got it back, it worked. But later that night it stopped working again. And its really bunk because Christmas is here and I have tonnes of highway driving to do, with no cruise control.

Mine wouldn't engage as soon as I picked it up off the lot, I thought it was weird but figured I was doing something wrong so I let it go for awhile....then figured out I was doing the correct sequence to get it to engage but still nothing. I took it back to my dealer and they fixed it and no problems since

Cruise Control Fixed!

It was an easy fix, turns out there is a switch that if you engage the clutch the cruise shots off, my switch was so sensitive that if the clutch didn't come all the way up the cruise wouldn't let me engage again. Some times my clutch didn't come all the way back for some reason. So they made it so the switch is activated if I press the clutch down a couple inches, not a milimeter.

Do you think disconnecting the battery and attaching again will do the trick? Or do we have to goto the dealer and get them to clear the code. I try to watch not pressing the clutch when driving and using cruise but it's hard sometimes.

Does this error code show up ONLY when you are using the cruise and tap the clutch, or when you are in city traffic as well without cruise?

It lasted a couple weeks and I dont know how it happens since I always drive the same.

It's annoying.
